Is Elon Musk the greatest visionary or the greatest snake oil salesman of our age?

It infuriates me almost beyond words how musk's latest wheeze is being reported almost without any critical thinking whatsoever.
They should at the very least mention his numerous cons and failures instead of simply calling him a "tech billionaire".

I'd settle for "Elon Musk, serial liar and tech billionaire, who's continues to fail to deliver Full Self Driving cars has today claimed the gullible fool who acted as a guinea pig has not died after having a device implanted in his brain".

nothing is real any more mate. Post Truth and all that. There's millions perhaps billions out there who geniuenly believe he is nerding away in labs with a white coat on, peering down microscopes, disovering, inventing. that he some hyper rational scientist, determind to improve mankind.

instead of the Sad Dad rich kid who got lucky with some investments.

I've given up on truth pretty much. Trying to share any "narrative" with anyone these days is almost a waste of time in my experience. The channels of (often "mis") infomation flooding in just feel too vast and varied.

military contracts would be the one. Imagine wetwiring a whole team for all sorts of instant comms and battlefield useful AR, drone control, fire co-ordination and stuff that I haven't thought of. Load of recently recruited and indoctrinated kids would be the testbed for commercial versions of the tech. No doubt some would have embolisms, some would flip out and kill people while home on leave but thats the price of progress right. A few mill here and there for compo when they retire with tardive dyskinesia and ptsd. Yuk. Never thought I'd live to see machine gun drones either but I have and its grim.

TBH, from what I've heard from my military friends, a lot of really damaging shit is going on without this technology. Lifelong problem caused by PTSD, experimental drugs, defoliants, contaminated water, substandard housing, and even trash disposal methods. And god forbid the VA gets their hands on you, then you're really in trouble. Most of them if they had it to do over again, wouldn't sign that contract. So you are correct when you suggest that they'd be willing to use green kids as guinea pigs, because they have in the past.

VA?

Ah, thanks.

Why are they such a problem?

They have a reputation for giving substandard care. My dad always claimed that the VA existed mainly to kill off as many veterans as possible. They ran radiation experiments on the patients there in the mid-50s, he was one. They did all kinds of experiments:

Radiation:

Psychological experiments:

Elon Musk: Judge blocks 'unfathomable' $56bn Tesla pay deal

A judge in the US state of Delaware has annulled a $55.8bn (£44bn) pay deal awarded to Elon Musk in 2018 by the electric car company Tesla. The lawsuit was filed by a shareholder who argued that it was an overpayment. Judge Kathaleen McCormick ruled that the Tesla board's approval of the pay package was "deeply flawed." In a post on X, which is owned by Mr Musk and formerly known as Twitter, he wrote: "Never incorporate your company in the state of Delaware". The pay deal was the biggest ever in corporate history, helping to make Mr Musk one the richest people in the world. During the week-long trial, Tesla directors argued the deal was made to ensure that one of the world's most dynamic entrepreneurs continued to dedicate his attention to the company.

The blocking of the pay deal is the headline but the story underneath it is that the whole governance structure has been ruled inadequate. Which is no surprise — it’s been pitifully obvious to me for years that this is the case, and I’m just some know-nothing neutral party who is 5000 miles away.

Yeah, but it's Elon Musk dude!!!

Governance , pah!

The man-child has taken to Twitter to throw his toys out the pram. He is whining that nobody should incorporate in Delaware, and (even though he doesn’t have the power to do it) saying that he wants to reincorporate in Texas or Nevada.

This is a massive irony because Delware is INFAMOUSLY friendly to corporations. It’s a tiny state with hardly any people and yet a massive proportion of US companies’ headquarters, because it is so easy to do what you want there. If Musk can’t even get Delaware to agree to what he wants to do, he really is shit at running things.

in laymans terms:

tesla gives musk 56 billion by releasing funds.
shareholders and laterly a judge say hang on, that's not fair.
musk has to pay it back?

is that right?

I mean, basically, yeah. But “not fair” (also) means “hasn’t gone through the basic corporate governance that is legally required before doing this”.

two sheds said:
plus I read he tesla share price dropped after the judgement
I think maybe it’s the Streisand effect. It’s drawing attention to how shitly the company is run and showing how unstable its CEO is.

Weirdly (or not) Cathy Wood just sledges Delaware for doing it
