Is Elon Musk the greatest visionary or the greatest snake oil salesman of our age?

On my MSN feed it mentioned Musk's private visit to Auschwitz Birkenau - some private visit with cameras in tow and reported widely?

Not saying he shouldn't have gone, but it wasn't a private visit.

I think "private visit" prob just means the plebs were kicked out in advance.

More from his 'European Tour'.

Elon Musk: Diversity-based hiring is antisemitic – POLITICO

Whole article's interesting. It focuses on the three arguments Musk set out to make.

Diversity equity and inclusion is antisemitic.

Defending X-twitters record on antisemitism.

Gaza is an example of the fight against indoctrination.
The quicker X fails the better. He’s actually dangerous. Forget his views (he’s entitled to them), just the “fingers in the pie” nature of him is very troubling for humanity imo

I haven’t seen either Oppenheimer or Barbie, but I’m assuming these two images are from those two films respectively, yes?

So it’s saying that when Marxists read Nietzsche, they feel like Oppenheimer did in that scene, whereas the reverse makes “Nietzscheans” (which isn’t a thing, but anyway) feel like Ken in that scene.

Since I don’t know either scene, I can’t really go any further than that.

The funny thing is that I've been reading about Nietzsche's philosophical ideas recently, and I guess that by Musk's abysmal standards I would count as a "Marxist". But my reaction so far has been "oh, that's interesting and kinda cool even if I don't agree 100%", rather than whatever existential crisis appears to be befalling the Oppenheimer character.

I also haven't seen either film. It's just such a shit meme all round, innit?

Nietzsche is in no way incompatible with Marx. Quite the reverse, I would say. There‘s a big overlap related to alienation within modernism.

nothign would ever "end" with Marx. we are still desiring beings (hope springs eternal - it truly does), but thickos like Musk probably thing that Marxism is some totalising end, a shadowey absoloute ideology that would somehow mean thigns would stay teh same forever and ever. Therefore he being the "free thinker" (lol) can disregard Marxism from his trendy Nietzchian prospective, failing to see he hasn't understood Marx in the first place (few have).

He is interesting philosophically. He can play an interesting role in "thought expermients" or speculative thinking. I had an interesting thought (to me anyway) laying in bed today.

Imagine you go on a weekend break to an air bnb with Musk, Benzos, Joe Rogan, Liz Freidman, Zuckerberg. The Optimised Rational Beings Energy would be huge. They would be busy meditating, doing squats at 5am, being constructive, powerful. Reading science books.

And then they would ask me what I was going to do today. How am I going to be better. And I would say, I am going to start the morning off with a wank. Then I am going to sit in teh park all day and read True Crime. Then I am going to go home and have another wank and order a pizza. And then I am going to have another wank. And then I am going to sit in teh garden and read a book. And then I am goign to stay up all nigth and drink coffee. And then I am going to veg out infront of my favorite film and have another wank. And then I am goign to cry for a long time about all my regrets in life and and do nothing about it.

Just to see the look of absoloute horror on their optimised faces. "You can't do that, are you unwell?"

Robert Downey Junior getting baubles for not playing himself as much as usual is some of the most tinsel over talent crap I've seen in years.

Wait, was Robert Downey Junior in Oppenheimer? I thought yer man with the cheekbones off of Peaky Blinders was in Oppenheimer.

Both - RDJ played the jealous manipulative bureaucrat. A relatively muted performance and makeup to age him, shot in black and white, and voila, Oscar nod for best supporting actor.

Guy Walters, TV historian, not impressed by Musk's antics at Auschwitz.

Never forget: How I watched Elon Musk hoodwink the world at Auschwitz

He was pilloried for promoting antisemitism on Twitter/X last year. So when billionaire Elon Musk flew to Krakow to meet members of Europe’s Jewish community this week ahead of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, he was in for a rough ride. Right? Wrong, says historian Guy Walters, who was there to witness it unfold with horror and fury

So if we ignore the spaceships for a while, and look at Neuralink since it’s in todays news cycle. A sci-fi project whereby you are wired to control a computer with your brain. A project that left many apes brain dead but that’s ok since they were end of life.
But I don’t know anything about monkey medicine so I can’t comment other than what price progress.
But I do know about software and the risks inherent in its architecture and its lifecycle as dictated by business wants and needs. Do you really want to be left not updating and potentially vulnerable to hacking because you didn’t keep up to date on subscription fees or because Muskrat has decided on something new and better and shiny and left that project to crumble.
Would you really want a brain implant from fickle man?

Tragically, planned obsolescence has already struck folks with brain implants without Musk's help:

These aren't performance enhancements either, but more along the lines of prostheses intended to at least partially restore typical human functions. I have to wear glasses in order to see anything clearly beyond a few centimetres past my nose; I would be absolutely furious if my opticians going bankrupt or discontinuing the frames I use meant that I could no longer see with my glasses.

Any kind of restorative or enhancement device installed into the body should be able to be replaced or upgraded like glasses are today, otherwise it's just opening up a whole new world of exploitation.

military contracts would be the one. Imagine wetwiring a whole team for all sorts of instant comms and battlefield useful AR, drone control, fire co-ordination and stuff that I haven't thought of. Load of recently recruited and indoctrinated kids would be the testbed for commercial versions of the tech. No doubt some would have embolisms, some would flip out and kill people while home on leave but thats the price of progress right. A few mill here and there for compo when they retire with tardive dyskinesia and ptsd. Yuk. Never thought I'd live to see machine gun drones either but I have and its grim.
