Is Elon Musk the greatest visionary or the greatest snake oil salesman of our age?

I think he's hedging on Crypto taking over from FIAT currencies. And that's the aspect that x.com and it's associated app will take.
It wouldn’t surprise me. But that’s a child’s cartoon version of money and finance. Crypto has no mechanism in real-world politics and power by which it can “take over” from fiat money. Money IS fiat money, because it is the state that provides the political power and physical infrastructure on which economic activity relies. And finance can’t exist outside the rules created by the state, because if the state decides that an activity is illegal, that activity only has a criminal market presence, which excludes the vast, vast majority of everyday people

Rishi is dead keen on it which tells you all you need to know

Yes there's a human being inside there, that's what makes it compelling. He's not quite full android yet, whilst zuckertwat is at 98% android.

If he showed some humility "Sheesh guys just gotta roll with the punches, I'm making some mistakes"

A fuller human would manifest. But like trump it's probably not in his armoury. Gains bro.

I think he does say that, pretty sure he's fairly open about seeing everything as an experiment and that mistakes are made.

fair enough, i am going on the picture here tbh, so could well be wrong.

But its you that is key to creating the picture of him here, you have quite a fixed idea of him and you don't move from that.

Given that it's highly likely he's autistic, he himself has said so, it's not cool to call him android or not fully human.

Plenty of ways you can criticise him without doing that.

The problem is that not everything should be or needs to be an open experiment. He’s indulging himself “experimenting” in things that are elementary knowledge to people with actual expertise in that area. He needs to find a way to incorporate that expertise rather than believing he needs to always make the mistakes himself. Particularly when he’s playing with people’s lives

I'm a great believer in the PDSA cycle myself - yes you experiment but you take some sort of scientific approach so you learn from what's gone before.

I'm a great believer in the PDSA too

I agree, he's driven by a need for control.

I'm not defending him in any way, I only post as I keep getting notifications for this thread because I haven't turned them off, but I just don't think the way he's talked about here is very accurate a lot of the time. Every time I say actually I don't think that's quite right, I get a reply as if I'm a Musk fan girl. Its annoying.
