GamesMaster 2.0 | 10pm Weds, E4

Lord Camomile

Yipchaa!
The new series begins 10pm next Wednesday (24 Nov), though apparently something (not sure if full eps or just clips) will be available on E4's YouTube channel from Sunday (21 Nov)

Sir Trev taking over from Sir Pat as GamesMaster.

"in social-first partnership with Oculus Quest 2 from Facebook" isn't encouraging, but possibly somewhat inevitable, I guess.

Was quite a fan of the original series back in the 90s, will be interesting to see how this goes; whether it's a full-on retro-nostalgia-fest for aging millennials who just want the original again, or if they modernise it a bit to reflect the current gaming/e-sports landscape.

Instinctively it feels like something like this should do well, given how huge gaming and e-sports are, but I guess maybe that audience is already watching elsewhere, and unlikely to pay too much attention to what broadcast channels are doing. That said, from the industries POV, getting further into the view of casual gamers might well be of interest?

"I'm not here alone to extinguish the dreams of middle-aged men..."

He's talking about me!! :D

(I was 14 when GamesMaster was last on   :D )

I worked on Gamesmaster at the very end. I can't see how the format would translate to modern gaming, but then again, I was never really into computer games.

I for years I had a games master helmet and golden joysitck, but I eventually threw them away.
The good news it that the helmet must have been a prototype, because when I recently looked for it on-line (to see which series it came from) it didn't match anything. It was slightly cyber/techno so I guess it would have been made for whatever series that was.

I'm behind in my watching, but aye, curious as to whether it's going to be a brief flash of nostalgia or if it has the legs to do something with the current popularity of gaming.

As I alluded to above, feels like if it is going to succeed then it's going to have to do something different everything that already exists in a very busy market.

I still have a blue playstation (broadcast version) in my attic.
I did games world and games master, got free games, consoles, computers, and my job was often to just play computer games. . . . all totally wasted on my, as I was not in the slightest bit interested.

That's the second mention of Games World, and was just trying to work out whether I couldn't remember it because of my ADHD or simply somehow managed to miss it, but see it was on Sky One in the 90s, so never a chance I'd see it.
