From rock band to solo project

Has there ever been a great solo project to come out of a great band.
I was thinking of Floyd but moving on, Yes, Zeppelin, Who, Stones, Genesis, Yes, Rammstein etc.
The only ones which spring to mind that I have taken to are Steve Hillage, Ozzy who has released a great track or two and Slash with Velvet Revolver, but what are the others.

Graham Coxon is the most talented one out of Blur IMO. Before I knew he was a fan I had detected a hint of Syd Barrett in his guitar work.

I have always preferred Peter Gabriel for his solo stuff and the post PG Genesis stuff ( and I say this as a fan of Yes)
