Back in the news is the Metropolitan Police's former
PC Philip Hunter who was exposed by the Standard newspaper
for having a sexual relationshipwith a suicidal woman ("Mrs X") during a welfare visit and who has faced a new gross misconduct hearing after a dramatic U-turn.
Former
PC Philip Hunter retired and worked as a London black cab driver when his initial 2020 disciplinary panel was held in secret and upheld a complaint that his conduct breached standards of authority, respect and courtesy, confidentiality and discreditable conduct which would have resulted in his dismissal if he had still been a serving Metropolitan Police officer.
However, in 2022, similar allegations against former
PC Philip Hunter by a Mrs Y came to light in relation to misconduct in 2017, but
the Metropolitan Police refused to take any further action against him, claiming that "a referral to disciplinary proceedings in this matter would be a disproportionate response in the circumstances of this case".
Then, in late July 2024, the Metropolitan Police announced that further misconduct proceedings
would be brought against former
PC Philip Hunter, alleging that he
"engaged in inappropriate communications with a victim who was vulnerable and whom he had met whilst carrying out his responsibilities as a police officer, with a view to forming a sexual relationship with her or to have inappropriate sexual contact with her.”
Yesterday, former
PC Philip Hunter, was found guilty of gross misconduct ... again ... five years after Mrs Y had lodged a complaint and only after the Independent Office for Police Conduct had overturned the Metropolitan Police's decision not to take any action:
'Predatory' former Metropolitan Police' PC guilty of gross misconduct
It has been reported that former
PC Philip Hunter previously served in the
Metropolitan Police's Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command.
