Driving Standards

I got numbers and really thought black cabbies and the authorities had better standards than that. ie that that might even care.

Well they would if you had proof. A license number isn't proof. Anyone who gets mildly pissed-off with a cabbie (probably a few thousand people a day!) could make that kind of complaint out of spite.

the otherthing to remember now is that to even get to points i nthe first place you've been caught at least once and not taken the hint from an SAC / Motorway safety course , theoretically you can get done twice for speeding every three years and never get any points you just have to make usre you go at least 3 years between getting caught by a fixed or roadside camera (SAC) and at least 3 years between getting caught on the vairable limit sections of the Motorway or major A road (smart motorway course thing)

You don't get the option of a course for some speeding offences. I've got to go to court, no option for a course.

I think on my course they said they ignored = 10% +1 mph

So in my case in a 70 + 7 + 1 = 78 and I was doing 79 so I was punished. Had I been ding 77 they might not have punished me at all.

How much over the limit were you going?

I was caught at 79 in a 70 and was offered a course.
Never happened to me but I am sure I remember some people- very likely in this forum- saying they weren’t offered the course as first time offenders even though it was a mild speeding case. Perhaps it depends on the local authority?

I didn’t notice the limit had changed to 40 on a smart motorway. Was doing 66 in what I thought was still a 70. My own fault but the punishment is going to be super-harsh.

Nobody has a right to a SAC, and some police forces don't offer them at all. Other forces may operate a quota system and only offer a limited number. Whether or not you are offered one is at the sole discretion of the old bill.

Compensation is quite often paid in instalments to the court and then onto the victim so the £3k may not be paid in a lump sum
From memory, I had at least 3 lots of compensation each paid in a lump sum. Saying that, one or two interim figures were paid while people argued over the final figures.
