Driving Standards

You're right, we should all just ignore crime if we see it. See a crime happening? Just walk on by and leave them to it.
I hate bad driving, possibly more than anyone on this thread, and one of my absolute pet hates is mobile phone use whilst driving, as I've nearly been killed on more than one occasion by mobile phone users whilst I was riding motorbikes... but I hate self-appointed law enforcers even more than I hate taxi drivers on mobile phones. Obviously, we're not all the same, and everyone is free to have their own pet peeves. Slimy little weasels just happens to be one of mine.
Do you reckon Mikey would come running to the rescue if someone was getting mugged? Nah, he's just a glorified scab till.

His father was killed by a drunk driver.

Different kettle of fish to somebody using their phone whilst sat in stationary traffic.

Ehrm, no it is not.

The research found that the reaction time of texting drivers is 2.8 times more than those on the drink-drive limit. For using a hand-held phone, the reaction time is 3.5 times more than those at the drink-drive limit.

Sat in stationary traffic; drink drivers sat in stationary traffic are no danger at all, but just as with the phone drivers, the traffic clears and they start moving.

How many people have been killed by someone setting off from stationary with a phone in their hand?

Similar to the number killed by drunks who are just setting off from stationary traffic, I would guess. Not really the point though, is it. Phone driving is just as bad and in many cases worse than drink driving, yet those reporting one should be applauded whilst reporting the other is worthy of being assaulted. That's a ludicrous position to take, but that's your choice fella.

You send a text while you're in stationary traffic, then throw your phone onto the passenger seat, and go about your day. You can't throw your drunkenness onto the passenger seat, so comparing the two is a ludicrous position to take, but that's your choice, fella.

OK, so all these people are just doing that?

When Mikey films people texting etc. whilst moving, is it then acceptable to report them, in your world?

We're getting into that grey area of what's wrong and what's illegal here. What's illegal is clearly written down, what's wrong is a bit harder to define and we all have our own views as to where the dividing line is.
If you're making the argument that you should report someone for using their mobile phone in stationary traffic purely because it's a crime then what about reporting someone for disrupting public activity by sleeping rough?, spray painting "Free Gaza" on a wall, knocking over statues in Bristol? They're all crimes. You either report everything or get picky about wrong and right vs legal. Most people do the second but that means you have to accept that other people might do the same and have a different dividing line to you.
The people using their mobile phones whilst stationary in traffic probably don't think they're doing anything wrong even if they know it is actually illegal. They were just unfortunate enough to encounter Cycling Mikey who so happens to draw his line in a different place than them. I view him and his activities with a certain amount of amused indifference, I don't commit the offences he is rabid about and I don't live in London either. I don't have much sympathies for the drivers he's filmed either, regardless of whether it's right or wrong it is indeed illegal, they were caught and nothing changes that.

I don't feel the slightest bit of sympathy for any of his victims, as it's their own fault, but that doesn't make him any less of a cunt.

The thinking goes; you are pissing about on your phone in stationary traffic, the traffic ahead moves but you don't cos of funny WhatsApp thingy, (we've all seen these people and the gaps they leave as the traffic moves off), car behind toots his frustration, phone driver instantly slams foot on the gas without checking it's safe to do so.

We've all seen that exact scenario played out multiple times. If someone has walked in front of the stationary car they will be hit.

When you are driving, even when stationary you should have your attention focussed on the job at hand, can't really believe normally sensible(ish) people would care to argue otherwise.

It's the distraction, isn't it. Your attention doesn't switch back 100% when you put the phone down, you're thinking of whatever you looked at.

I don't see anybody arguing otherwise. I was merely expressing incredulity at nobody having lamped MikeyBikey.

Agree totally which is why I don't do it. nor do I have sympathy for anyone caught doing it either including those caught by Cycling Mikey. However the argument I was making was that the statement "We must report something because it is a crime" is a logical fallacy.

Well obviously, when was the last time you reported any crime? Personally I try to avoid all contact with police, so my bar is set very high before I'd go to the fuckers.

What Mikey does useful and brave.

He also operates mostly around the Regents Park area of London and no one has ever seem him and Spymaster in the same room at the same time. Makes you think.

if you remember, you couldn't confirm or deny whether you would get physical with him.
Because that wasn't something I'd considered, as I'd never be in that situation. But what's that got to do with anything? You said people were arguing that it was ok to use a mobile phone whilst driving (stationary). Nobody was.

Nah, nobody was.

I've had a cyclist tell me to "get off the phone" when the phone was in the cradle, I was sat at lights with the engine off, and was skipping a music track. That was near Regent's Park too.

Android Auto and Apple Carplay have rendered the need to use the phone in the car obsolete. If you're using one when you have either of those options you're a dangerous bellend.
