Donald Trump, the road that might not lead to the White House!

Who do you think had the nicer fingernails? I rather liked Trump's. Refined but manly. Very presidential.
So, to be presidential you have to be a man do you? You have just discounted half the population, including 2 contenders in the present race, from the post already if being "manly" is a criteria.

You can be manly without being a man.

My point is, why should somebody have to be? Give me one example of when "manliness " has been a force for good on the world stage?

I doubt it ever has. But one might say the same for femininity.

I suppose the lesson is that we should not apply gendered terms to political actions.

Early consensus is that Hillary won. Gawd I hope so. Unfathomable that polls showed them tied before debate.

Early polls and focus groups suggest Hillary Clinton won the debate
Tom fancy you posting the CNN poll result, if Clinton wasn't even there CNN would have said she won ;)

According to the CNBC poll in which 960,300 people voted, the result was 67 percent said Trump won and 33 percent voted for Clinton.
In the Time poll over 1.6 million people voted the result was 55 percent sided with Trump, 45 percent with Clinton.
IIRC NBC also had Trump winning by a small margin.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the post you replied to may not have been entirely serious. In fact it may even have been intended to ridicule those who value such things as 'manliness' and being 'presidential'. Call it a hunch.

For a short time, I had the debate on in one tab, listening to it while I read something in another tab. I'm thinking: 'what's with all these loud sniffles?'
you got to see it in sensible time of night. I stayed up till two am to watch with increasing horror as these two fucks....thats an hour of my life I shall never get back

I think those are on line "polls" you are citing. People don't vote in polls. They measure enthusiasm & aren't really polls. The ones in the article I cited were real polls & focus groups.

Has he started being critical of Putin, or something?

He's always been critical of putin, he's a western liberal ffs. No it's the way he starts talking loud and excitedly about something that's really funny when it's not really . And looks like Ben Elton . Lately it's started to grate. A bit smug . Pity because I used to like him and find him funny even when I disagreed .

He's still much better than that S African guy who took over from John Stewart though . He's ultra smug and not even remotely funny .

People do vote in polls . And they were polls . You just don't like how all those people voted in those polls.
You're just mad Shillary never managed to rig those votes as well .

None of my American friends support Trump, but some of their friends and family do. This is typical of their reasons:

Basically, Trump performing badly in the debate will either not affect his vote or will affect it positively. For some people he's a "change" (as daft as that is) and others openly want an inarticulate President. He's going to win.

Clinton behaves as if the White House is hers, like it's her own property . That it's were she belongs by divine right . That gets up so many people's holes . The thought of having to sit there and listen to her smugly pontificating every day for the next 8 years...Christ it drives me round the twist . At least if trump is elected there's no way hell get a second term . And he'll probably be impeached anyway .

Trump didn't perform that badly . Didn't melt down ,Didn't go mental, didn't storm off, didn't punch her or call her a midget or something . By his standards that's fair going .

I've just seen a 5 minute clip. Purely in terms of performance Clinton was pretty smug, but came across as calm. The surprise was trump, he sounded flat and not quite as ranty as normal (though written reports suggested he was). Not sure if its a lack of energy after all these weeks or whether his team had chosen to turn it down, sound more 'presidential'. If the latter it's probably a mistake. Being the wild, ranty populist, not willing to even deploy a nominal level of civility is what had got him so far.

His team said beforehand he was going to be pretty boring . That there'd be no fireworks . So it was definitely deliberate .

Wrong. Those on line "polls" are where people go to a web site & vote. That's not a scientific sample. A real poll is where a polling organization initiates the contact.

Dunno. He started out quite well and seemed to lose interest; as though he just lacked the attention span. That said, Hilary looked to me as though she used up all her ammunition tonight. Not sure what else she's got to throw and she can't just keep repeating herself...and Trump will have learned from this. Before tonight I thought fuck it...who cares which way it goes but I'm even more seriously worried now. Surely presidents need to able to concentrate for more than hour?

ETA. Then the name Regan popped into my head...so y'know...whatever really
