Donald Trump, the road that might not lead to the White House!

The polling is horrifying, I'm starting to think that he is going to win.

I've been saying that from the beginning . I'm not sure he will win, but he definitely can . And as in Brexit, he mightn't even want to win .:D:D

Clinton is really that shit . Jean claude juncker in a pant suit .

Jon Oliver sums up the candidates' strengths and weaknesses the night before the debates.

(need a VPN to watch in the UK).

I liked him in the beginning of this race but he just gets on my tits now. Got more than a touch of the Ben Eltons about him . Whiny little speccy liberal who likes to say " fuck " for edgy effect . And do air quotes . He can fuck off now .

You really do have a problem with women, don't you? You comment on their clothes, their weight, their looks. Do you really feel that threatened by them?

If Trump did win, what are the chances of the Hill working with him? Would a Republican split be on the cards?
Trump & a Repub congress would get along just fine. The congress would pass all kinds of right wing legislation & Trump would sign it whether he understood it or not. It's a very frightening prospect. The christian extreme right would be in power.

Early consensus is that Hillary won. Gawd I hope so. Unfathomable that polls showed them tied before debate.
what we have so far points toward a Hillary Clinton victory.

We’ve got:

  • A poll of debate watchers by CNN/ORC, which found that 62 percent thought Clinton won and 27 percent thought Trump did. CNN’s David Chalian emphasized on air that the sample was 10 points more Democratic than in a typical poll, but that’s still a strong win for Clinton.
  • A poll of debate watchers by Public Policy Polling, which found that 51 percent thought Clinton won and 40 percent thought Trump won.
  • A focus group of 20 undecided Florida voters by CNN found that 18 of them thought Clinton won.
  • And a focus group of Pennsylvania voters by GOP pollster Frank Luntz overwhelmingly thought Clinton had won. Libby Nelson has more details about that here.
Early polls and focus groups suggest Hillary Clinton won the debate

I'm sceptical.

I've just seen a 5 minute clip. Purely in terms of performance Clinton was pretty smug, but came across as calm. The surprise was trump, he sounded flat and not quite as ranty as normal (though written reports suggested he was). Not sure if its a lack of energy after all these weeks or whether his team had chosen to turn it down, sound more 'presidential'. If the latter it's probably a mistake. Being the wild, ranty populist, not willing to even deploy a nominal level of civility is what had got him so far.

Good insight from Vox, because the audience was asked not to interrupt, he wasn't playing to his usual friendly audience and that rattled him.

Ah, cheers, that sounds about right. Bit like when a boxing ref says no spitting no gouging and nothing below the belt - and one of the fighters realises that takes away all his best moves.

That was always predicted as a potential stumbling block, wasn't it? That he couldn't court the votes of both types of voter, and if he started to tack to a more 'moderate, Presidential' style he risked losing those who had got him there while others would still remember all the batshit stuff?

Pretty accurate for the whole thing (I saw all of it). I thought he was very restrained with the playground stuff tbh (disappointingly so tbh :D).

He let himself go by being defensive and ranty when Clinton digged him about personal financial stuff.

Here's hoping he ups his game for the next round. This is like Rocky vs Ivan Drago - the overtrained political titan vs the plucky underdog with the unorthodox technique surviving on pure spirit :D

In your metaphor trump is rocky when he's more like Drago, in Putins pocket, corrupt and a cheater.
