love it, numerous student loans were invested in consuming vast quantities of the stuff, to me it's like drinking milk.

I watched a documentary about Guinness on the telly sometime last year it think it was. Its a bit of a myth that Guinness has more calories than lager or beer. I think it has less actually if my memory serves me correctly.

I used to drink a lot ot Guinness; infact it was my main 'pub pint' for years. Used to drink it in tins as well. I used to crave the flavor! Still have it now and then in the pub. I vary what I drink though. I'm just as at home with a pint of real ale as I am with a pint/glass of decent lager.

Anyway, round here (Northern market town) Guinness is over £3 a pint in most places. There is usually a choice of crap 'budget' drought lager in most pubs. The staples are: Fosters, Carlsberg (nasty!), or Carling for £1.50 to £2.00sh....

Then there is the more expensive but served EVERYWHERE Stella.

And generaly a different 'decent' lager on in each pub. Say for e.g. Heineken or Becks or Bud......

I'm not a fan of the guinness. I really enjoyed it once but I was really pissed and thought it was lager. Apart from that no.

I am surprised about the calorie thing though, I thought it would be a lot more calories that other drinks.

Very interesting leccy.

Thank you Sparkles, I thought so, so much so that I have nearly told every single person I meet.

This is a verry nice stout......

Iv never had Beamish on draught but I got it in can's once and it had sulphites in. Was not impressed.

don't like guiness, do like killkenny though.

Electrogirl thinks guiness tastes of bacon(allegedly), lol.

Ah no, this is not entirely correct but it does bring me to a point I forgot. I had my first full pint of guiness in an english Wetherspoons before I flew to Ireland. It tasted of Bacon.

I was a bit put off by this but I gave the Irish stuff a go. It didn't taste of bacon.

When I returned to England I had another pint and it didn't taste of bacon.

Therefore my conclusion is that Guiness from Wetherspoons tastes of bacon.

I'm trying to decide if this is actually a worse thread than Arse-to-Mouth '09, or just exactly the same.

Guinness and port. Hm. Might try that. I tried poor man's black velvet recently, which was okay but you'd not want more than a pint of it.

I've been trying to get used to drinking Guinness - it's not that strong but has some body to it, and I want to cut down on the alcohol a bit. Also every pub has it. I never used to like it but it doesn't take that long to alter your tastes really.

I got told off by strung out for laughing at your guniess=bacon thing on here, while your were on your period of exile.:(

i can't vote properly in your poll. I don't dislike guiness really, I will certainly drink it if someone buys it for me, just prefer other things. Like cider, or jack and coke.

That IS weird. I've seen peopeldrink Guiness with Tia Maria in.

I used to drink Black Russians made with guiness, tia maria, coke and vodka.

To answer the OP though, yes, I've recently remembered I like Guiness. Good to drink the day after the night before when you've been on the mash and can't manage food.

Well, it DID taste of bacon. I SWEAR.

I sent some mushrooms back in a pub because they tasted of lemon washing up liquid. Turns out it was lemon butter. Oh how magic sam laughed.

:D

I'm annoyed no one is as surprised as you by the calorie thing btw. I still feel quite uneasy when I drink it because I thought it was 2000 calories per pint for so long. My mind has been indoctrined to think of the roast dinner stat.

Fair enough, but you wouldn't have put it on facebook if you didn't want people(me) to laugh at you.

I have never tried murphys( i dont think) I have always refused because of thier shitty "like the murphys i'm not bitter" adverts. They annoyed me.

In a kind related note i'm also currently boycotting strongbow because of thier "and you tv installer person give us pets do silly things in HD" everyman/ working class pint bullshit advert.

I however, wont be drinking carling even though their adverts amuse me somewhat.

Where's the poll option for 'I don't actually dislike it, but neither do I actively like it, I only ever drink it in pubs that don't have any good beer, so it's the 'oh damn we're in a shit pub what shall we have, staropramen or guinness' option

I must say this is a very good thread, by the way.

I always thought it was about 300 calories, same as all beer. I think of beer as 'barley soup' calorie wise.
No difference between stout and lager except the grains have been cooked darker. Stronger beer started with more grains or more sugar, so have more body and thicker soup.
