Detail your latest furniture and homeware related purchases

I have recently bought:
New fridge (with water dispenser that pleases me endless)
Washing machine
Desk
Chair
Cat tree
TV
Wardrobe

Yes, I am broke. And why does everything come flat packed? I'm tired of putting things together😠

I have been on the lookout for a 'listening chair'for a few months - something I can put near to my decks (no wireless amps and stuff here!) and listen to music when the fam are in bed. Criteria were: comfortable as possible, vinyl or leather as kiddo spills things, and 1960s or 70s style to suit our other stuff.

Just pulled the trigger on this Skoghaug Danish recliner which seems to fit the bill. Not cheap, but should last a long time. Better be as comfy as it looks!!

This is on marketplace for free but I’d need to engage a man with a van (ideally two men as I don’t want to carry it if I can avoid it). Pondering it, if it’s still about at the weekend

Decided to have a measure and while it fits in the space I have it would restrict access to some frequently used storage. So overall a no

That's bloody lovely. I think. It might be veneery, or teak.
If you don't like it I might swoop :D Whereabouts is it?

That wallpaper though

Glad I went for it, £50 for the men with ven, it was free to collect but gave the bloke a bottle of wine to say thanks. This is the perfect height at 165cm, I’ve got a light fitting at 180cm so most pieces of furniture of this type are too big!

Need to take a hole saw to it at some point to make a plug sized hole, but not 100% certain where best to do it

Doesn’t it have a hidden light on the opening to the left of the flappy bit? So iperhaps you could make use of the hole for that light?

I may be mistaken though.

Do you mean so you can pass a plug through it for something electrical you’ll keep on it or so you can access a socket behind that it covers?

If it’s the former, I’d be inclined to take (cut) the plug off and make a cable sized hole and refit the plug (or fit a new one if the original was moulded) in order to be more discreet.
Thanks, it’s the former. There are cable sized holes already from the previous owner though not in the right place for my needs as if I used them the cables wouldn't reach where my socket (or rather where the extension lead plugged into that socket will be accessible from) is.

I’d rather not cut the plugs as I am wary of attempting anything beyond my competence! A plug sized hole would be hidden by my amp and cd player.

Wiring a plug is dead easy though - I get a bit confused when folks don't know how to do this sort of thing, it's only barely more technical than changing a light bulb.
If you can cut a hole in a cabinet you can certainly wire a plug :D

Love the cabinet, dead jealous!

I am a bit traumatised by the sparks that followed when I tried to change fuse wire in an old style fuse box about 15 years ago.

Plus I also want to try out the special drill bit I borrowed!

I wonder if it's an age thing? Loads of things just have moulded plugs these days, I think things used to come without them?

Possibly that, I can recall my dad messing around with plugs in the 80s, anyway hole drilled in 10 seconds and it’s not visible with Hifi in situ :)

Edit, after a bit of thinking I decided to drill a second hole for a few reasons - I realised my hifi was underneath the drinks shelf which felt a bit risky, also gives me a bit of flexibility to add a turntable next to the hifi in the future, the bottom drawers being handily sized for vinyl. Second hole hardly shows with the infill back in and there’ll probably be something in front of it anyway.

A wine storage thingy in a similar colour of wood to the fireplace surround, bought off a mate for £20 yesterday

it sits on the raised marble slab in front of the fireplace, and hides most of the hideous grey wallpaper and capped gas fire point. The rest will be hidden something else, perhaps a tall vase, and I sometimes have a storm lantern with pillar candle there too

Also in shot is existing wine storage thingy which I am contemplating selling.

Those champagne coupes are particularly lovely. I was about to go to Sainsbury’s and get some but sadly not in stock here
Funny how fashions change, isn't it? The first time I came across champagne it was served in very flat "saucers". Then "flutes" came in, and now it's these "coupes". Not knocking it, just commenting.

Maybe old fashioned ale jugs will come back one day.

Yeah I had to go 40 miles to get them in stock (was going that way anyway).

My local Sainsbury’s had some but only singles and more expensive but you might find some.

Winter is damp and humid here. Bought a Midia dehumidifier as half the back of the house ie where my bedroom and a bathroom is , faces North and doesn't get the sun. External walls here don't have cavities and are covered in sand stone , consequently, that side gets a bit of condensation .

So I plugged it in and the humidity registered at 77. I've had it on for six hours, on low fan speed, and it's down to 61, and have emptied two litres of water.

I went anyway as I needed to get stuff for lunch tomorrow, and they had 2 boxes on the shelves. I’m so pleased. Thanks for the heads up. 😀

I'm on the lookout for some stemless wineglasses if anyone sees any in the sales

Yeah I want to second the TK Maxx suggestion too, I had a browse through their homewares last week and they had a good selection of glasses including stemless wineglasses (I am sure they are what we just used to call "tumblers" but there you go)

Looby i have 2 of those Habitat big wine glasses I use for gin (they were given for gin). I’m going to try & pick up a few more.

ETA: they are actually gin glasses as just bought 4 for £7. I was only gifted 2.
