Bought these in Sainsbury's yesterday, £30. I only went in for some lunch stuff :D Not sure if I'll keep them yet, they're a bit massive (but don't look it in this pic). There were other styles I liked better, in black, but these were the only ones in a size 8. They have a zip on the other side to the elasticated side.

The Rocket Dog ones I've had for the last couple of years (much more expensive, £80 or so!), have always let the rain in from day 1, and are now coming apart at the seams. They weren't good quality, or value for money.
My expensive rocket dogs leaked and split really quickly too.

I’ve got two pairs of Sainsbury’s leather boots and they’ve both been great and so comfy.

New winter coat. I’m really pleased with it. It’s slightly bigger than I’d like but I think the smaller one might be too tight.

I’ve also got some new brown DM Chelsea boots so pretty much sorted for winter but I do need some jeans.
I’m struggling to find some as the style I wear with sandals and trainers don’t really go with boots.

My weird body makes finding jeans really hard.

Going jeans shopping is brutal. I’m still waiting till I lose that magic stone before I begin that journey.

I wear a very old pair of Dotty P ankle grazers & a pair of Lees found in a charity shop. I have a few other pairs that are not right (mainly baggy in crotch area , hate that) .

I hate it!
I’m fat with a belly but flat arse and my thighs aren’t huge so skinny or straight leg end up baggy. Plus I have short legs.
I won’t wear boot cut.

501 cropped are good but don’t really go with boots but I’m going to try some darker ones with turn ups.

They went back, not a good fit, too narrow.

Instead I went to a different Sainsbury's and got these, the ones I really wanted in the first place. Leather, 45 quid. They fit better.

Bought a gorgeous pair of Fly mid-calf biker boots, I've wanted some for ages and was so excited to try them on, but I can't do the zip up so they're going back.
Curse my chunky calves

Any recommendations for brands that might fit?
Really? I find Fly generally fit my tree trunks unlike anything else, but it's dependent on the style.

I’ve not been able to keep up with the necessary skill set for buying jeans.

Back in the 80s and for some years afterwards it was waist number, leg number, preferred brands, hated brands and that was it. If there were any further details needed it was stuff like button or zip fly, and check for the red stripe on the Levi’s inner seam. My favoured jeans were ex-prison button-fly red tag Levi’s shipped in by the ton from the US, piled in stacks in various places on the King’s Road or in Kensington Market. Then you‘d drag out a selection of the desired sizes and try them on because the way they’d been worn in by US prisoners would make each pair of jeans completely unique. When those became rare and very much more pricey I went for new Levi’s approximation what I wanted. Since then I’ve been drifting further and further from my ideal, making occasional forays into other brands but never giving up the search for the platonic ideal.

I had some excellent Ben Sherman jeans in the late 90’s but they wore out fairly fast. Denim was too soft to last long. I’ve bought and worn some second hand Wrangler’s and even Lee, but it’s always Levi’s that calls me back.

These days there are so many variables that I end up walking away and vowing to look up “how to buy jeans” online.

I hate the stonewashed pre-worn effects, the fake crease lines at the crotch and back of the knee, the holes carved into brand new intact jeans by indentured labour who probably can’t afford to buy brand new intact jeans. And I’m completely at sea with the vernacular of which brands denote which tribes.

But I really do need to buy some new jeans.

They do fly type boots and as you can see these have an adjustable strap.
Also simply be are great for bigger calves.

I just looked at all the boots on that website, they have some lovely ones.

Oh I really like those.
Don't think I'm going to be anywhere near affording boots or shoes this winter though

Not a purchase, but I did 'acquire' this the other day. Found it. Don't think they're coming back for it, so I kept it. Looks virtually new. Exactly my size too. It hasn't got the armour in it, it's been removed, but then I don't have a motorbike :D

BoatieBird I have chunkier calves & have calf length purple Fly boots that I adore. Is getting the zip up at all not happening? I persevered & with lots of puffing & holding the zip in etc whereas with some other boots that wasn’t an option for me.

I'm quite unhappy atm which is great for my wardrobe cause I'm constantly buying nice clothes to cheer myself up (plus the seasons are changing etc etc). Recent pick ups include:

  • a burgundy John Smedley henley top made of lovely rough silk
  • a turquoise long sleeve polo shirt (also Smedley) made of merino wool
  • some olive green, pleated wide-leg Italian jumbo cords
  • some dark brown slim-leg moleskin trousers from Private White of Manchester
  • a grey t-shirt made by Merz B Schwanen, the king of t-shirt manufacturers
  • a super-heavy dark green scottish wool cable-knit jumper (by Barbour)

been after a nice merino v neck sweater for myself for a while. m&s used to do really nice fine examples, came in a box.

Its my nephew's birthday soon so I was looking for men's shirts to buy and was so surprised at how much more exciting prints there are than for women.

I didn't buy an exciting one for him because he's a teenager and just wants to blend, but I got this Where's Wally one for me. As it's a man cut its not amazingly flattering, but I love it.

Bought these mint velvet trousers as I'm feeling short of work trousers. Intended to be cropped they are conveniently spot on full length on me and look really nice and satisfy my checked trousers fetish. Also bought some lovely lycra-but-tailored wide legged black trousers from Kiin at John Lewis that need shortening by about 6inches but are otherwise really nice.

A lot of money to spend at once by my standards but I am trying not to get cheap crap when I buy new and keep reminding myself I am a grownup on grownup money now so I can afford it once in a while.
