ShiftyBagLady I'd go for a messy long bob that you can wear either curly or straight. Kind of like Jennifer Lawrence's current hairstyle which is very much the cut du jour.

If you're on Pinterest, I would do a board of the kind of stuff you like. That way you're more likely to get what you want.

I'm having my long hair cut soon too - probably to a medium length style as I feel I'm straying into Kate Middleton territory at the moment as I have lots of shiny hair that's in pretty good condition as it's never been dyed. I don't think this is a look that's working for me. :D

Give your hair to the hairless children! Er tone loves your hair so I'm sure they'd be thrilled to have it, minimum length is 7" though

I've been looking at messy bobs, I think that is where I'm going to aim but it will probably be a bit shorter than the fashionable people, I reckon it wil be about chin length.
Do you think that's a good style for a long face?

Ask your hairdresser. I'd probably keep it below your chin to balance out your face shape. But chin length is also really fashionable - have a look at Sienna Miller's new do. Also Clemence Poesy. I think a messy bob will look great.

It's just long and has a half arsed side sweepy fringe. But it doesn't matter how it looks now as it's all getting cut off innit.
I have no idea what you look like, so I can't really suggest a cut..... different things suit different faces. It not a case of 'oh, red hair looks nice in a bob'

ShiftyBagLady it's not so much your hair type you need to consider - the hairdresser will know what will and definitely won't work, and whether it needs particular layers put in or whatever. Your height, build and face shape will determine the precise length/shape of the cut. Again, your hairdresser should be able to advise you there - it is someone who has cut your hair before? There are a lot of lists if you google, look at celebs/models with a similar face to yours.

I have a jawline length bob  chin length would be lovely :)

And what a great thing you're doing. Will you share the resulting poetry with us eventually?

Manter yes I know it's hard to advise on things like this without pics but it's still useful for me to get some vague and general thoughts and suggestions
I wonder what zenie thinks? quimcunx? keithy
I dare not imagine what fogbat thinks

Yeah he's cut it loads of times. He good but I've never let him do anything very creative on my hair, he's just been guiding me through the conditioning and shaping bit (growing out all manner of haircuts so that it's all one length).

It's a lyric essay I'm writing and it may not be to many people's taste but I will definitely consider putting it up for you

Blimey

Actually, I'm not all that surprised. I never shop in M&S but Shelter had a deal with them and got truck loads of stock from them for the charity's shops to sell. I used to buy lots of M&S back then. I think Shelter still do get lots of stock from them. M&S have a mock up shop floor that they use for training, full of the season's stock. End of season, Shelter gets it and the training space is refilled with the following season's stock. They also donate samples that never get taken up.

um, not sure what the question is or why anyone would ask me for style advice. :D

Do not get the cut rebelda just got. I'd say a straight fringe might be fun but I'd keep your hair longer if you are getting a fringe.

Be daring!!

short hair looks good on most people. It's like wearing a hat, wear it with confidence and you're fine. :)

Yeah, they still do it, our local Shelter always has quite a bit of new M&S stock and samples in

Hmmmmm I would go daring with something that is easy to grow out if you hate it. Your colour is so lovely that I think you can pull off short!

ok.. so I went to M&S today and tried this on in the short and standard sizes. The short size is what i would normally wear (just above knee), but I felt for this dress, which is quite elegant, the below the knee standard one was very very nice. I really liked it and I'd like to get it but a) I can't really afford it at the moment.. I would buy it anyway but b) I'm dropping dress sizes quite quickly due to the dust diet. I have no idea where i'll be in summer - probably a 16/18?

So I don't know what to do... I don't suppose these will end up in a sale - they're too nice.

Also I wouldn't know what shoes to wear with it - I don't do heels and the longer one does feel like a "heels" dress... I wear trainers and Birkenstocks... :D

Funny, I saw it in M&S today and wasn't that keen in the flesh. I thought the fabric was a bit flimsy. I didn't try it on though.

They're always having flash sales, gg - there was one earlier in the week. They usually pop up on Facebook.

yes.. it's very fine material. My alerts don't seem to be working and I noticed too late that foamy kindly tagged me about the sale earlier this week... :( Already quite a few sizes are out of stock!

Of course what I should do is buy nothing at all until I stop this dust diet - and really I should buy nothing at all full stop.

There will be other dresses and if I do get down a few sizes there'll be even greater choice.

WTF? Having shiny hair in good condition is a bad look and a reason to cut it off?

Are you having a crisis of hair doubt because gaijinbaby #2 said my hair was like a dream and didn't say anything about yours? :p

 Don't remind me.

I'm just bored by my hair ATM.

Umm. I just bought a bright red beret. For no other reason than it popped in my head - I KNOW, I NEED A BERET!

Fucking ebay.

I've no idea when or where I'm gonna wear it. I was thinking about a gig I've got tomorrow night, and wearing a black poloneck cos it's still freezing, and I wouldn't have to get changed when I get home from work, just put jeans on instead, and then a midlife synapse went POP and here I am, with a fucking beret I'll probably never wear.

If nowhere else then festivals. Next to me you'll look well dressed ;)

It depends on who you go to.
For years I had young female hairdressers trying to convince me to get a fringe.
I was never convinced as my hair is quite fine and I have a awkward face :D
A few years a go I started going to an older bloke in Herne Hill and one of the fist things he said was that a fringe would definitely not suit me :)
I really like him and the others stylists they have there.
They are honest but not afraid to try something different.
