It is indeed! I had a tweed harrington (with suede elbow patches *sigh* I loved that coat) when I was a size 20 and I don't think I looked like one of the two dead fat ladies :hmm:

You were never a size 20!?

Then again people looking at me now wouldn't believe I was a size ten, six years ago.

I think it's the face with me though plus the weight.
Years of smoking and imbibing too much, gaining and losing and gaining weight, plus a genetic collagen deficiency that shows loads of broken blood vessels and a huge bulbous nose.

That's why I think I look like one of them :D

I got a cheapo one for £3 in Primarni not long ago. Well worth it and can't believe I got to my mid 30s before owning one :D

Summer before last I was. I ate a lot of toast and biscuits while I was breastfeeding :D And I did that for a long time. Plus, I sort of gained weight defensively iykwim. Single mum to a baby girl - being flirted with made me really uncomfortable and reminded me of all the self-loathing that I did before Orla. So I made myself fat and invisible. Plus I did a lot of eating against my mum and sister's anorexia. Actually losing weight hasn't been difficult, but getting my head around it has been colossal. Such a minefield, innit.

Sorry, wrong thread for all that really!

No that makes sense honey. Sorry you had to go through that.

I don't bloody have one, my dress is going to creep up my tights until it's under my boobs

I have a dress that does that if I wear tights. :D

Just bought a spring coat/cardi thing. The shop had the same coat in two options; 'Premium quality' and 'Export quality'. Apparently the export quality coat doesn't have a chemical smell but is £2 more expensive. :D I was actually going to buy the coat with the smell but Mr Yu talked me out of it.

This is kind of weird question, but do you feel vaguely resentful at the price of clothes and the like when you're in the UK? :hmm:

For some things, yes! Especially places like Zara where the quality is terrible. But we do have Primark in the UK which is still cheaper for me for shoes because I have feet considered so large here that I have to buy from specialist 'Oversized Feet' shops. :D

A lot of the factories here seem to make surplus when they fulfil a UK or US order and then sell it online, so it's a bit shocking when you see stuff, especially jewellery going for pennies, all branded and packaged with the store's logo. I am a bit fascinated by it all actually.

New Look shoes are made in China, but they obviously keep tight control of their factory, because none of their stuff ever makes it online.

That's interesting. You are quite tall as well compared to a lot of people in China as well, does that mean buying trousers is tricky?
And I'm not surprised about the jewelry. A friend of mine used to work for a company that supplied accessories to chain stores, both high and low end. All the costume jewelry was basically the same except for the price tag in the end
You'd probably hate shopping in Australia, clothes here are expensive for what you get. But that's not surprising since everything is expensive in Australia.

Yes, I toatlly belive what your friend says about the costume jewellery. You can work out which brands are using the same factory based on what gets sold together and it really is a mix of high and low end stuff!
Trousers are hard here, you're right. But we have Uniqlo and H&M and Zara here, so I get trousers from them. I think it's harder for my husband as he needs to dress for work and is tall too, so we have to buy all his clothes full price from real western shops. The total value of his clothes is probably about 10 times mine, but I have many more.

Do you find yourself shopping online with stores outside Australia more than buying from the highstreet due to the prices? Like ASOS do international free shipping, don't they? I see you post stuff you've bought from there quite a lot.

Ha, well done for having so many more clothes than your husband

Yes, I do. Basic things like socks, undies and t-shirts and the like I still buy in shops. But lots of other things I buy online. If I wait long enough most online stores have sales and/or discount stores. I am also short and plus sized. The choice of plus sized clothes in Australia is rubbish. It's either synthetic sparkly teenage clubbing clothes or frumpy older lady clothes. Plus sized clothes are always way more pricey than stuff from straight sized clothes are often poorly constructed. ASOS things for the same price whether it was a size 6 or 24 was quite an eye opener for me.

they're rocket dogs, brilliant after failing so dismally with converse cos they're too fucking narrow. i'd have both if i had kid-sized feet :D

Ooo, that's good to know.
I love converse, but they are a little narrow for me so I always pay if I wear them for too long.

I have a slip that I nicked off my mum when I was 15. She had probably had is for about 10 - 15 years before that. It's still going strong now and I have never found anything even close to being as good looking or functional as it.

i have a beautiful 40s silk slip i can't bear to part with even though it's way too small atm. i try to keep a selection that do fit about, they're so damn handy to sort out any fitted but unlined frocks : thumbs :

I have the M&S slips with Cool Comfort - anything else makes me generate sparks and get really hot. They do a full one and a waist one, and I have both. I wear them under loads of things, either to stop sticking or for modesty purposes with gauzy frocks. Annoyingly, this year they've put lace on them - usually plain.

I've got a couple of dresses that stick to my legs no matter what I do. I know this is because they are made of shit synthetic fabric.

Would a slip help? I've never worn one either.
