Crafty Thread - what are you working on at the moment?

Tips? Can you share the pattern? :)
Hm well.
  • I blended two very different sizes on top and bottom. The designer blithely says you can easily do this but it wasn't quite that straightforward because they were 3 sizes apart. The pleats didn't match up and actually I had to make extra pleats on the bottom half to take up the extra width, as adding all the extra into the one pleat pulled it out of shape. It looks fine though. The extra back pleats I actually turned into darts, to be smoother. I think if you were blending neighbouring sizes it would be pretty simple though and you could just add the extra into the existing pleat.
  • I wish I had staystitched the front opening much more firmly and further towards the edge, as it did stretch out a bit when I put the binding on. I steamed it back though and it's ok. The binding gets sewn nearer the edge than 5mm because you just pin it on and then edge stitch it down through all the layers.
  • I would probably give it an extra inch in the rise (crotch seam) next time (for bum flattering purposes). But that's me and wouldn't apply to everyone.
She says she's designed it to give the minimum of fitting issues and it is very forgiving. You could make it up in something quite glam or very casual. Probably not a heavy fabric because it needs to drape and gather a bit.

The link to the pattern is in my earlier post. It's a bit of a pain printing it off and taping it all together but such is life. Also I found cutting out a bit stressful but that was because I only had 3m of fabric and I had to do a lot of Tetris to make all the pieces fit.

I would also describe it as easy. She's written the instructions to be quick without lots of faffing about tacking things down and interfacing things.

will remember that for next time, it's not like i'm short of the the stuff :D

managed to carve out a couple of pathways which is a start. and the finger should be good to go again tomoz. i'm just the worst hoarder

It's magic, just stop the worst of the bleeding then push the sides of the cut together and splodge a thin layer of superglue over the top

Urrrgh the tipee/tent project has been a shit show from start to finish and is costing me a fucking fortune. First the bamboo was not strong/straight enough so had to buy extra long broom handles, now i have the frame the material is now no where wide enough and my calculation were well off so about 3 meters short as well, so having to send it back and reorder more in a wider width but of course ebay returns is borked:mad:. I am never gonna get this done in time for the babys birthday party on the 1st. Lesson learned dont blindly follow a insta project, think about it first:rolleyes::facepalm:

I felt a little inspired by current events :D
I was thinking about you yesterday, spirals, as I'm tackling my first crocheted animal. It's huge compared to your pieces, but I find it impossibly fiddly. How on earth do you hold it when you've only got 6 stitches a round, or so, and can't get a finger inside it?

I started off with normal sized hooks and gradually sized down, it took time but after awhile it just clicks.

Although this looks ridiculous because it is being blocked (it will actually be a beret for an 8 year old) just posting the most ridiculously tricky knitting I have done for ages - a torrid mix of methods including 9 bizarre little bags of wool which needed to be kept separate...plus up to 4 different colours at a time. a nightmare (and utterly ignoring requests for 'one with racoons on it, please nana'.allotment may 2019 003.JPG

So the tippee of doom is finally done. Really stressful and its ok, but not perfect. Lesson learned about self drafting patterns and not believing my initial and correct:)mad::mad::mad:) measurements. But hey madam is only 1 and will more than likely refuse to use it for months anyway so i might be able to sort out the bits that annoy me at a later date:rolleyes:20190529_115236.jpg 20190529_115225.jpg
