Charlotte Dujardin not competing in dressage after whipping video emerges

Three counts of rape against a 12 year old girl in the UK, only got 4 years, sent to Holland to serve his time and was let out after just 12 months. Was "the biggest mistake of my life" apparently

I don't agree at all with using animals for sport, but it does make me wonder why this video surfaced now, and who the source was. Bearing in mind it's caused the withdrawal of someone who was poised to be the most accomplished woman Olympian ever, there are vested interests outside of animal welfare that make me suspect motivation.

Also, hundreds of horses get shot dead on racetracks, all the time, when they break their legs, because they're so hyper-specialised, they have the ability to run fast, but fixing them is too costly in time and effort, so they're "put out of their misery"... Never mind the gambling-centred racing industry that hyper-bred these animals expressly for entertaining us. And then worked them literally to an early, if relatively sudden death.

Just, don't use animals. It is so very, very straightforward when you set yourself that basic goal, and no amount of "oh it's an industry! Oh it keeps farriers in work! Oh it brings us medals to boast about, oh it keeps fox hounds happy, oh it clears the fields of pests, oh it's what the traditional King's Guard sits on.." It's all the same continuum of species-specific assumed superiority, and greed. 😩

Horses in the wild don't dance like hot pricks. We have made them dance like pricks, because it pleases us. Distasteful, archaic, and exclusive, it can all get to fuck, whipping or no whipping.
Any sport using horses is going to have an element of cruelty in it which is totally unacceptable. My own personal hate is polo as the ponies get yanked this way and that, crash into eachother and a lot end up being destroyed because their hips are knackered due to all the sharp turns they have to do.

Another one is horse racing as jockeys are still allowed to use the whip to 'encourage' as exhausted horse to go faster when it's got nothing left in the tank.

Disappointing to know that she did it to try and make dressage more accountable.
Personally, I would have filmed the twat every time I visited the riding school. Having multiple videos showing her disgusting behaviour, would have gone a long way to destroying any credibility months ago.

There's been at least one allegation before about her - also on video. But she managed to wriggle out of consequences.

I think this is an open secret and she won't be the only one. I think equestrian was on its way out as an Olympic sport anyway, I think there was going to be a decision made after Paris so this might just hasten it's demise

Good on whoever leaked it. Maximum damage and publicity.

Two of Dujardin's sponsors, equestrian insurance company KBIS and Danish equestrian equipment company Equine LTS, have removed their backing.
Equite LTS said they are "shocked and saddened by the video" and "do not condone this form of behaviour".
KBIS said they "cannot and will not condone behaviour" that goes against providing the "best care possible" for horses."

According to her, she was "making an error of judgement"
is that what they call animal cruelty in her circles?!

That doesn't surprise me at all. I do hope you're right that equestrian sports will be removed from future Olympic games. Hopefully, other equine so-called sports will be brought under the spotlight. Horse racing springs to mind.

They have just shown a clip of the video on the news. She looked very relaxed and casual about it, like it's not the first time she's done it. What's worse, the horse was alongside a wall. There was no moving out of the way/ escaping.

I watched a bit of the video, and saw the horse pressing itself to the wall, trying to escape being whipped. I agree that it's obvious, she's done this many times before. She actually looks slightly bored as she inflicts pain on the horse. Maybe someone should whip her in such a fashion, she won't be bored then!

I doubt that. I know a few horsey people and none of them would dream of mistreating their horses. They treat them like family.
No doubt there will be dodgy fucks but I reckon they're the exception.
Why do equestrian ‘athletes’ have whips in the first place?

As previously mentioned, and even worse, steeple chasing.
Steeplechase is less damaging to horses than flat racing. A horses skeleton matures around 4 years old and flat racing races horses regularly as 2 year old and there are even yearling stakes. These horses develop all manner of skeletal problems which cause them significant pain and an early trip to the knackers yard. At least horses don't race in steeplechase until they are at least 4 and overall have significantly less musculoskeletal injuries than flat racers.

So for you, it's a question of the least harm?

Think 4 horses died at my local course last month in one day (summer jumps course)

Not sure how much attention that got nationally

Well it used to be about 300 a year, just from falls. I can't believe it's reduced significantly.

So not that much attention.

Fun fact. In the 70s the Sunday Express used to run a list on the racing page that was headlined 'scratched'. Scratched meant dead. Took me a while to ask dad that one.

Years ago, a friend's daughter was on a research grant from the British Horseracing Industry at the Bristol veterinary university to find out why so many flat race horses suffer the skeletal problems you describe. One of the tests they did was to make a 2 year old horse gallop on a treadmill for a period of time. The horse must been terrified because if it slowed down or stopped it would fall off the treadmill and I'm pretty disgusted with anyone who could get involved in this sort of research.

Horse racing is all about making money....no more and no less.

Bugger I've just read through this thread. I'd had quite a good night up till now. I was aware of the whipping in horse racing which I must certainly hate. Why on earth should there be whipping in dressage? Why should there be any whipping of living creatures? I've had little contact with horses. Even if I wasn't keen on them I wouldn't want to inflict any pain on them whatsoever. Especially so if that was only for our entrainment.
