Chancellor Rachel Reeves: Her Time Is Up!

This is a surprise, after his pitch for Labour leader in 2020, I had him down as a man of his word. Perhaps I was wrong :hmm:
I suggest you were: he has junked every single one of the 10 principles he stood on. On second thoughts, did you really think him principled??

oh I see scrapping the 2 quid bus fare cap is the next wheeze. I've been taking the cross county x4 for years on end and since the 2 quid cap its been very well used, workers, kids, everyone. Back when it was 7 quid one way the service was running half empty outside of morning and evening rush. This fucking labour govmnt. Hows that growth supposed to happen when you've just made low earners work travel costs triple? Pennywise...

The two quid fare makes buses actually worth taking. I’m still salty about the 14 quid fare from Chichester to the beach ten years ago

This, the £2 fare cap has been a real life saver for me, it allows me to get out of the house to go to cheaper supermarkets, the job centre, the doctors when needed and saves me having to walk 35 mins just to get a pint of milk.

I fucking hate this lot, although I knew I would but at least I have some relief that I didn't vote for them

I can't put into words how ridiculous it would be to scrap the cap. It's really helped me over the past few years and it's obvious that passenger numbers are increasing partly because of it.

If Reeves does the nuclear option and scraps it "straight on" without any kind of ramp or lifting, some rural/long distance journeys could go from £2 to £12+ (I think there's a Yorkshire route which will go up to £22 in a single leap).

Not to go from expressing few opinions to being unable to stop typing in a single bound, but if what I understand is about to happen is accurate, workers on moderate incomes could soon be costed out of taking a bus to a job where NI contributions reduce your take home. And under a Labour government that is pretty ropey.

Conservative plan was to scrap it at the end of the year anyway? Bloody silly if it is scrapped.
Yes, they extended it to 31 December. I would have hoped that they would have "stepped" it from discounted to full in stages. The worry is that Reeves will just go straight from discount to full with nothing in-between.

So a care worker and a government minister .. both are working people!

But someone who is self employed or a small business owner might not be working people..

I really hope that the leaks about scrapping the £2 bus fare cap (after the present arrangements expire at the end of December) are inaccurate or expectation management. Such a move would obviously hit the poorest workers/carers by increasing the cost of a greener form of transport for what must be minuscule potential 'savings' to the public purse.
