car booty

I got a Czechoslovakian mandolin, a bongo, Peggy Seeger's 1967 "how to play the 5-string banjo" book, Nonesuch Explorer's "Koto Classics" CD and some classical guitar tuition books for 25 quid a month ago from Brixton Dr Barnardo's.

The other day I got W.H. Davie's book 'Autobiography of a Super Tramp", which I've always meant to get round to reading, a so-bad-it's-good potboiler paperback bio of Frank Sinatra and a nice Margaret Howell shirt that fits really well.

Brixton Dr Barnardo's seems to get a lot of promo CDs on account of all the music PR firms who rent office space in Bon Marché

omg never seen that, it is wicked that m8 and the selection is proper:cool: what the pressing like? probably too quiet eh? got most of them on 12" tho, essential old skool records in my book (yes, even the Candy Flip one - evolution is a gud toon:))

pressing isn't too bad tbh - good enough to play out i'd say...

that candy flip tune is ace: in fact, every track on it is a killer. think i'd probably end up pitching them all up to fuck though....

aye just noticed is on 2 vinyls so it'll b DJ friendly, top find that and a bargin price too, watch yer bassbins tho KB lol:cool: especially on that F-X-U track;)

Another top Candy Flip tune is called 'Konspiracy' named after the Manchester club, i remember is getting played on the 808state show, very nice quirky tune:)

i go for books and maybe the odd DVD now.

Mind you the new ebay rules may put an end to chancers who buy a Undertones or Clash single for 50p and put it on for 99p

QUOTE=MysteryGuest;9562126]well when used to DJ i was pretty good tbh. (not being ironic either)[/QUOTE]

That isn't what I heard.......

:p;):D

so does that mean you're shit or not? i'm confused now.
not sure tbh. i think i can read a crowd reasonably well, and i know the difference between a great tune and a not so great one. but i don't do anything other than play records really... any dj tricks i have are incredibly basic.

well then your'e a good DJ aincha? the problem, as i see it anyway, is that if you want to DJ then you've got a showing off streak in you, but you need to make sure that that showing off streak is in the service of making people have a good time. unfortunately, that showing off tendency can become a big ego thing that's completely divorced from the getting people to have a good time thing. in that context DJ tricks are... meh. you've got to DJ from intuition and from the heart - very rarely are DJ tricks used in the service of such things. usually they're just some kind of po-faced vacuous showing off. so bollocks to that sort of thing. unless you're doing it in order to enhance the party, i suppose. it's difficult, coz if you want to do really well at it, then you are going to be passionate about it, but you have to not talk about that side of things ever or else people will have a pop at you. such is the way of the world. ;)

Got Pete Stanley & Roger Knowles' 1970s album 'Banjo Bounce' from Oxfam Herne Hill for 2.99

Seems a bit steep, but then that's Herne Hill for you. Anyway, I didn't even know this album existed, so a distinct plus. Great Brit bluegrass.
