Britain's new national anthem to be Ghost Town by the Specials

Serene

Slightly disgruntled
Britains new National Anthem is to be Ghost Town by The Specials.

Lyrics for new National Anthem

Ghost Town

The Specials
This town (town) is coming like a ghost town
All the clubs have been closed down
This place (town) is coming like a ghost town
Bands won't play no more
Too much fighting on the dance floor
Do you remember the good old days before the ghost town?
We danced and sang, and the music played in a de boomtown
This town (town) is coming like a ghost town
Why must the youth fight against themselves?
Government leaving the youth on the shelf
This place (town) is coming like a ghost town
No job to be found in this country
Can't go on no more
The people getting angry
This town is coming like a ghost town
This town is coming like a ghost town
This town is coming like a ghost town
This town is coming like a ghost town

This is to put Britain back in line with how it is. We expect this anthem to commence at the England v Germany match on Tuesday.

Think we'll stick with gstq which is a far more depressing dirge than ghost town and far more accurately describes things - if you're reduced to calling on God for aid everyone knows you're fucked

Many many years ago, my old man was on the committee to save a music venue in Stoke town. The venue had hosted some incredible bands over the years. This song was covered by a local band and used as the fundraiser...

Club got turned into a Wetherspoons with a no music policy as it still stands today.

It was the first Specials track I'd ever heard, fell in love with the band instantly.

Its ironic that it turned into a Wetherspoons. This sums up a lot of the people today.

Yes, the updated version (which has of course overwritten the old draft)

It's the sheer optimism of the last line of the opening verse that got me back then and still does...

God save the Queen
A fascist regime
They made you a moron

Potential H-bomb

I used to think Land of Hope and Glory would be a good anthem. But that was when there was some hope, and still a little glory.

Mother Sky by Can.

Few lyrics for footballers to remember/mouth and it would be great to see them standing for 12 minutes of psychedelic guitar and rolling drums. Make the opposition sweat it out like. Mess with their minds.

I hate national anthems.

Would have worked well in the age of empty stadiums.

I'll be seeing The Specials (as they now are ;) ) in Coventry with friends, Saturday 10th September :)

I hope they feel obliged to perform Ghost Town at this particular gig!! ;)

(And as for 'National Anthems', fuck 'em!! :p :D )

Day to include the last day or so of the Two Tone exhibition at the Herbert Art Gallery in Coventry
