Britain - A Christian Nation?

well ultimately your head of state is the head of your state church, defender of the faith etc , and your pm has to be one as well. So until that lots been irreparably changed I reckon your just going to have to lump it.

The French for example are probably...definitely... a lot more culturally christian, but politically and constitutionally secular. Which strikes me as the proper way to go about secularism and pluralism.

Former Archbishop claims Cameron is talking out of his arse.

Yeah, but...nuanced in a very Rowanesque manner...

...[Britain is] post-Christian in the sense that habitual practice for most of the population is not taken for granted."

"A Christian nation can sound like a nation of committed believers and we are not that. Equally, we are not a nation of dedicated secularists.

"It's a matter of defining terms. A Christian country as a nation of believers? No.

"A Christian country in the sense of still being very much saturated by this vision of the world and shaped by it? Yes."

So more 'no & yes' than the title of the piece would have it.

Maybe Germany was Christian before anybody would've thought

An 1,800-year-old silver amulet discovered buried in a Frankfurt, Germany, grave, still next to the chin of the man who wore it, has 18 lines of text written in Latin on just 1.37 inches of silver foil. That could be enough to rewrite the known history of Christianity in the Roman Empire.

The Frankfurt Silver Inscription, based on the most updated translation:

(In the name?) of Saint Titus.
Holy, holy, holy!
In the name of Jesus Christ, Son of God!
The Lord of the World
resists with [strength?]
all attacks(?)/setbacks(?).
The god(?) grants well-being
Admission.
This rescue device(?) protects
the person who is
surrenders to the will
of the Lord Jesus Christ, God's Son,
since before Jesus Christ
all knees bow: the heavenly ones,
the earthly and
the underground, and every tongue
confess (to Jesus Christ).
