Bridgend MP Jamie Wallis arrested

No, doesn't want to be. At least not for the moment, because after tweeting that statement he tweeted another saying that he's going to continue presenting as he's always done and continue using the he/him/his pronouns.

Yes the phrase "for the time being" was used. Reading only slightly between the lines, I dont think he wants to transition whilst an MP, although his stance may evolve in future. It also sounds a bit like he may only intend to serve one term in office.

In what way is he trans? Fully transitioned or with intention to transition? I'm confused.

edit: oh, yeah, wants to be... mmm, ok.
Are you gay if you have never undertaken ‘gay acts’? Of course you can, so what’s the difference here?

He’s said he has experienced dysmorphia since he was a child, that his gender is not the one assigned at birth. That’s being trans

Would you use that statement with regard to anyone who has been raped, or only people whose politics you disagree with?
I'd raise an eyebrow for anybody who has made their way in life through exploitation of others, has a history of lying, whose past actions have outed them as a bit of a scumbag and who has a lot to gain through distortion of the truth.

You're assigned a sex at birth, not a gender.
And it's gender dysphoria.

Not convinced about the gay analogy tbh. And is he trans if he just says he has dysphoria? There's not need to do anything at all more than that to be trans? So he's a transwoman you think now?

Doesn't really answer my question. Not only doesn't it answer my question, it is absolutely symptomatic of the problems faced by people who have been raped, and directly links to the appalling conviction rates for rape. If someone states that they have been raped, then they have been raped.

You're excused from the jury

If the SNP have their way, all I will have to do to become a woman, and gain entry to women only spaces, is state that I identify as a woman. I wouldn't even need to shave off my beard and moustache.

Quite right on para 1, my bad.

On two tho - that’s pretty much what the arguments over the last 5+ years have been about, hadn’t it? Not needing to get ‘official’ approval and agreement.

Begins with B, rhymes with ollocks

I was under the impression that most people who are raped are disbelieved because they're vulnerable, expendable, female, powerless, victims of prejudice or the patriarchy and/or have the justice system stacked against them [delete as appropriate]

From the mouth of a lying, exploitative individual in the highest position of power whose career depends on dodging a charge that he looks pretty guilty of and who's subsequent behaviour would under any other circumstances look like he was trying to evade justice I'm going to reserve my right to suspicion. To be clear, I'm not saying he's lying but I'm not saying he's not.

I don't know, hence I'm confused. But in my mind trans was someone who had transitioned. I'm probably going to get cancelled/sneered at/misinterpreted/misjudged just for being confused...

Just to clarify, what he actually said in his statement today is that he has been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and he has felt this way since he was a very young child. He hasn't explicitly said his gender is not the one assigned at birth, unless that's somewhere else in another statement.

And assuming all that's correct, I think describing himself as trans is OK.

I kind of understand that people are skeptical about a Tory MP making statements like this, but we can still criticise him for what he is politically, and for what he appears to have done fleeing the scene of an accident, without questioning whether he's really 'proper trans', or whether he's really been raped.

That's absolute nonsense, and I'm being polite here.

Trans covers both transgender and transsexual. Although those two terms are sometimes used interchangeably, as a rule TS is someone who has transitioned and TG is someone who hasn’t. Both are still trans
