Brazilian Jiu Jitsu thread

Aye, and one of our main black belt instructors Jakub Zajkoski got bronze in black adult middle heavy, and was very close to beating Mahamed Aly in the absolute

an unconscious stereotype that i play with
but as soon as i see grapplers from russia, eastern europe etc, i instantly assume they're going to be tough.
and many of times they are...

maybe this developed from my wrestling days, who knows.

Snap. I assume they have a decent stand up game. Wish they taught wrestling in UK schools.

How you all going not rolling ? A bit stir crazy or have you insisted that your partner needs to learn to roll at home now.. :)

I'm just keeping my fitness up. Some people have released free video content which I'll watch at some stage, it's not really the same without a partner though!

been training like crazy.
have a set up in me backyard, TRX ropes, stepper, kettle bells, pull up bar and rope.
running 20 miles per week and cycling x 2.

i am tempted to open the dojo for sessions with me mate.
'tempted.'

I know a few people who are 'tempted' to do that too...

My son's gym's shut down until September, at the earliest. Luckily the building is rented from the council, so it's rent free untill then anyway.

A few of his rolling partners, who aren't essential workers, have been at home for 14 days so know they're virus free, and are talking about doing the old garage roll thing again...

Most of his rolling mates are security though, and have gone from nightclubs to supermarkets!

some positive developments over the last few days

launched to 'champion equality in BJJ'

they have an anoymous survey (which does close Satuday lunchtime) on people's experiences

and then a statement from about 70% of UK female Black Belts

How's everyone's BJJ doing?
Luckily, I still had access to mats - skills still sharpe and body fit...but do miss rolling with random people. 2 weeks until normal :)

Cheers :) Where do you train?

Streatham, SW16.
Been doing BJJ since 2007 (then stopped for 6 years).
Did freestyle wrestling (tokei) and a bit of MMA before that (was shit at MMA - too much to think about).

But I am old these days and body takes ages to recover. Doing lots of other stuff like HIIT/ cardio to keep lean.
Still at it and giving these boys half my age a good run...

I know the gym mate, good to hear you're still on the mats giving the young uns some grief ;)

Something wrong with our fucking brains, starting the day with someone knelt on your chest alternately trying to rip your arm off and choke you unconscious shouldn't feel this good

Aye, I been doing a 5.30am session 3 times a week for fuck knows how long now.

Did an open mat in a well known BJJ gym in Swansea last week - was great.
Been working a lot on positional sparring (open guard, turtle and back - it’s helping loads).

Nice. Yeah positional sparring is great for just hammering stuff out until you do it for the hundredth time and it actually works.

I've just this morning realised, after 7 years  training on & off, why I'm so shit at judo. It's because I'm right-handed but left-footed
