Bra thread

May Kasahara

take me to the feeling
I thought we could use an all around bra recommendation thread, since bra shopping is such a fucking nightmare. Fellow bra-wearers of urban, tell me about your favourites!

Triumph Lovely Touch wired push up
Triumph Lovely Temptation half cup padded balcony
Enough support, a flattering but reasonably smooth outline, no side spill, no digging in, no excessive padding, and the straps stayed put. Bear in mind that's for a C/D with a 38 or 40 band.

Juna bra, by Cleo. Comfy, acceptable under a t-shirt although not a t-shirt bra. Nice round shape, gives a 'Jane Austin' cleavage iykwim. Straps a bit wide for my narrow shoulders, but not an issue for people of normal proportions.

Deco bra, by Freya. Perfect t-shirt bra. Very round shape, more up-front than the Juna. Comfy again, although with a bit more potential to 'fall out'. Probably my fave.

Andorra bra, by Panache. Full cup style, lacy, no padding or moulding. Makes for a lower, pointier, less oomph shape. Classy and very supportive. Not one for under sheer tops though, as nipples will be visible!

That's my top three  eta: I wear a 30F if that's any help for what they're good for.

Liked because I scoop my spaniels ears and side flab too May Kasahara. Juna^ is a half cup. I can't really pull off balconette - my tits are bottom heavy and top empty. Always have been tbf, but child creating has exacerbated it.

After 40 years of vest wearing, I inadvertantly caught sight of my wayward bosoms swaying wildly (like a little hurricane on my chest) even though I was only doing a stately wander. Daughter dragged me off to Tittissima, the shop for 'big girls' where I was wedged into the first bra of my life (apart from a wistful trainer bra back in the 1960s). 34F, underwired to immobility, I put up with it for 2 weeks (of continual picking, nipping, twitching and shoulder bracing not to mention being appalled at what seemed like a huge fleshy shelf which seemed to stretch a couple of feet before the rest of me instead of the nicely sloping hummocks I had been used to. Despite paying an eye-watering amount of money (and I am so cheap, I cut my own hair), I had to before liberate myself from trussing. Daughter is still muttering about sports bras - but as I last did 'sport' when I was 13 and had enforced netball, I see no need to go there. Once again, my hooters are in danger of taking out small children's eyes and I will avoid shop windows and full length mirrors but I am going into senility with them hanging free.

I like this post so much I liked it, then unliked it so I could like it again.

Kinda like the 'Doreen' by triumph- it's as normcore as you can get and hard to get in black but it's like scaffolding! Gives me an amazing torpedo shape, but can not be worn with low cut tops.
Think matron! Or Hattie Jaques!

Also favour the Goddess the elomi and curvy kate. I sometimes buy nursing bras as I can get em in a JJ cup and in black plus him indoors is not very good at undoing them!:D

I hate 'em all. The only one I have that's comfy is a rather loud tartan one from Simply Be, and when I bought the plain one in the same range, it was completely different

Why do they do this? It happens with all clothing, shoes, coats, everything. Nothing comes in the same cut or size even if it's meant to be the exact same model (model? idk, I don't do fashion, replace model with whatever word is applicable) but just in a different colour. Hell, trying to buy the same thing again in the same colour often means utter frustration.

Now I'm out of nursing bras I've just got a couple of Cleo balconette bras off zulily. I've gone up from a 30DD pre-pregnancy to a 32E, which in a way is preferable as it seems really difficult to get band sizes below a 32.

im the most boring bra buyer in the world....just M&S, black and underwired. I dont like shopping! Plus im a double D so always in need of support....lol

Me too, except I buy white Playtex Cross Your Heart bras (aka "battleship bras.") Recently, I've changed it up with some sports bras that are much more comfortable. As long as I don't go jogging, the world is safe.

vests have their issues too - for example, the burning question whether to tuck into knickers or not (I do in winter - draughts)...and this gets very tricky when tights are involved too.

Interesting - my tits are now also flattish on top and bottom-heavy. Maybe I should try some different styles?

Yes! And that weird lumpy sausage thing you get when tights/knickers/waistband/top all stop at slightly different points and you end up with an, er, less than sleek silhouette

Or is that just me?

My very favourite bra is the dotty spot by Bravissimo. I have it in four colours and multiple sizes (weight-related variance).

(not me - it's a pic from bratabase - but the pro pics are huge and don't show the profile shape).

It has a forward projecting, sorta pointed shape. I don't like the more modern trend for a squashed round shape. I don't want my boobs squashed against me - they'll take up more of my torso and my waist won't look so small. Also, a 'pointed' bra (they're not like, conical, or anything) is closer to the best natural non-bra shape big boobs can hope for. The sort of slightly perky teardrop profile iyswim. Rounded is a bit odd. like fake boobs.

Which is not to say i don't want bouncy cleavage too. I want both. There's enough boob there - I can have it.

Personally I'm a big fan of Curvy Kate bras - they fit my particular 38- 40G shape well and come in fab colours. The Portia, Princess and Gia are my usuals.

interestingly, not fond of most CK bras because of the roundy shape - but the more recent 'Rosa' (opaque, stiffened fabric, raspberry pink floral pattern) is great.

Isn't it funny - different brands really do suit different bodies. I cannot wear anything by cleo - straps are a bit wideset and too thin, and the underbust digs in. When I had a deco i was unimpressed - also quite wideset straps, iirc. But i know loads who swear by them.

My last fave is the Parfait affinitas Charlotte. contrary to everything i'v e just said - it's all about the flat round profile, but it is soooooo soft and comfy. padded. the knickers are huge and retro-ish. I loved it in red online and ended up importing it from the states, but have worn it to death.

My current size is a 34JJ/K - but the sizing on the affinitas is notoriously weird - so i'd advise reading reviews.

That bottom bra is beautiful. I may have to risk buying one. Really gorgeous. But.... The bravissimo bra you like, I hate the fabric. It's sort if sheeny and makes me feel really sweaty. And I wore a curvy Kate bra and got spots where I got poked by the underwiring. Really not a good look

yeah - panache bras draw blood in my armpits - such high wires... but like i say, different brands for different bodies - and I love that fabric - the second bra is made from it too. It doesn't lose shape at all. It's part of the support and i need so much support to be comfortable.

Funny isn't it, how different people are? I bought this http://m.figleaves.com/uk/product/WC-853191/Embrace-Lace-Contour-Bra/?productColourId=733140 and while it is utterly gorgeous and looks amazing but I can only wear it for an evening. If I wear of for longer than about 5 hours I get back ache and sort of tightness round my ribs- I must slouch as I get tired, or sitting over a laptop buggers my posture or something. Whereas a fiore I can wear all day and all night and feel fab. But only a fiore- all other lepel bras make me feel like I have saggy boobs

This is why I hate bra shopping :( It's impossible to get around the whole trying-on-loads-of-things malarky.

Just ordered four things from Brastop anyway, will report back on fit.

M&S for me. I'm a 40G and everywhere else a 40 is ever so snug on me. I'm tubby but my rib bit is quite taut. I usually buy dual packs but M&S sizing is so godawful I've taken to measuring the bras against one another in the shop as I've had occasions when one of the pair is a good inch or two shorter in back width than the other. It's like buying what you think it's a decent packet of pork chops and then discovering the one underneath was hidden cos it's too bloody small.

FWIW I have one quite pert one which is a decent size, and leaves a huge space in my cup, and I'd like one to match but the other is like someone has overdone things with a balloon pump, the elasticity has gone and someone filled it with lumpy custard and hoped no one would notice. Doesn't stop me wapping them out mind!

Well. Previously I had been wearing a lot of Marie Jo bras, they are nicely supportive and have a natural but rounded shape. Very happy with them. Only since I lost weight I seem to have lost my beautiful tits. Well they weren't beautiful but I like them. Now they're not very nice at all and I'm thoroughly PISSED OFF at this, the latest of my changing body disappointments. fucksake. I've been wearing a sports bra lately as I haven't the time or the money to go and get refitted but mainly because I'm just being bait lazy and if the tits aren't being nice to me then I'm not going to be nice to them. So there.

I did try some curvy kate ones before and I found that they gave my tits a really really pointy shape which i did not like
