BBC presenter Huw Edwards suspended over paying for sexual pics.

I agree it would be a shame to ruin a thread full of gossip and wild speculation with anything resembling serious debate but this is an important point.

Depending which survey you read up to half of men and a not insignificant number of women regularly watch porn and I doubt many of them are too concerned whether the person on the screen is in their late teens or very early 20s - or whether they spend the money they earn on crack or not. There are 18-20 year olds on onlyfans and other platforms with thousands of followers and these sites are coercive machines employing all the dopamine stimulating tricks of social media with the added enhancement of money and the fact that the next message might come from some dodgy old celebrity who could spend 10 grand or more over the next year. Many businesses still routinely entertain clients at lap dancing bars which exist in every town and city and are full of 18-20 year olds. And young people, predominantly women, are routinely sexualised and objectifed even in more mainstream culture.

If this is an online sex work thing, and on some level that looks very likely, then what this man has allegedly done is little different to what a very large number of men are doing every day, including no doubt some of those now ferociously attacking him.
I knew as I was writing it that my sentence was imprecise. What I meant was if we try to have the above conversation here, people will see the issues in terms of this story rather than take them as an important point on their own.

But yes, you outline the issues well.

A new aspect from the Daily Fail. The presenter has been doing a Roger Mellie impression by all accounts. Looking forwards to the " my drug hell" tell all shortly..

Archived to deny the clicks.

I haven't been fully following this, but it seems a bit of a non story (unless the presenter was credibly threatening actual physical harm)

According to the BBC, the conversation between the person in their 20s and the presenter moved onto other platforms after beginning on a dating app.
The presenter then revealed his identity and asked the young person not to tell anyone.
The young person later posted online alluding to having had contact with a BBC presenter and hinting they might name him.
The presenter then sent a number of 'threatening messages' which the BBC says it has seen and confirmed came from a phone number belonging to the presenter.
The BBC said the young person felt 'threatened' by the messages and 'remain scared'.

And:

The teen at the centre of the BBC sex pics scandal has denied anything inappropriate or unlawful took place between themselves and an unnamed presenter.

"sent abusive messages that were filled with expletives" if he was double cunting* sounds more like a Daily Mail editor.

*apologies, that's the technical term

The first quote refers to this new allegation, the second refers to the first allegation, a separate matter completely.

This latest allegation is that this guy in his (ed: removed) was putting pressure on someone in their 20s to meet-up, and I assume not with the intention of just going for a coffee.

Then it seems he said who he was, I assume in the hope that could persuade them to meet him, using his position of fame to get what he was after. They responded with the hint they may name him online, to basically get him to back off, but instead of doing so, he lashed out with 'threatening messages'.

That I think sounds pretty dodgy, using his position, one that pays him a six-figure salary at the expense of licence fee payers, to get whatever he was after.

* note the Mail article is just a rehash of what BBC News had already published.

The bit I don't get is that you only get to chat to someone off a dating site if both parties want to. And if they then take it to email, that has to be consensual from both parties too as that's quite a big step. It's very easy to block someone.

I've removed your reference to his age for what I hope are obvious reasons.

They took if off the dating app, we know not why, perhaps just young and naïve, perhaps he hadn't been honest with his profile, especially his age, which is hardy uncommon!

By itself it would be a non story. More TV Presenter behaves like Roger Mellie rather than TV presenter is engaged in fucking dead corpses ala Savile.

The Times article makes it look particularly thin: https://archive.ph/H2V6N

At least Osborne's activities have been off the front pages for a few days so I reckon Mr Murdoch probably thinks he is owed something.

Yeah, both cam and dating sites surely have terms and conditions regarding age so if someone was underage they must have lied about this fact. Hardly the presenter’s fault although they were clearly plumbing to pretty socially unacceptable depths with their interests.
Taking something away from a dating app onto WhatsApp or whatever is pretty standard behaviour once a connection has been made, surely?

(((Sleazy Old Fuck)))!

Whoever it is sounds like they’ve possibly been faced with blackmail twice by young people they met online, having revealed their famous name. Which sounds kind of naive tbh or compulsive idk.

Can't have it both ways. use your fame to attract and then want your name kept out of it when the other party wants to tell people.
