Avoiding meat and dairy is ‘single biggest way’ to reduce your impact on Earth

So do some meatfreaks on here think that it’s perfectly ok to continue to eat meat at the same rate they’re doing now? I had thought that we’d got past that and had conceded it was good idea to at least cut down and be more adventurous with plant based food

Given that you have no idea how much meat others eat...

Yes, but the majority of food does come from industrial farming and you can't just detach the 'cruelty, environmental impact, consumption reduction etc' from the equation. Its part of the package,
Absolutely, which are the reasons for trying to both reduce my consumption and at least try to buy more ethically sourced produce when possible.

That's not a loaded question, oh no.

Maybe you need to change how you think others think about food. If I make a Spanish stew with chickpeas, potatoes, onion, garlic, spices, cooked with a ham bone, is that a meat-based meal or a plant-based meal, or something else? It has meat in it, but it's really a chickpea-based meal because that is providing the bulk of the calories. I'm also eating red meat.

Pretty much yes - but as I said, that doesn't mean eating several pounds of steak per day. Might be just adding a little bit of chorizo to a pasta dish for extra flavour, stuff like that. Not necessarily meat being front and centre of every dish iyswim.
It's a question of effort and motivation for me, often. The easy option can be to just cook a piece of meat, bung in a couple of veg. Something both healthier and tastier, like the above-mentioned chickpea stew, takes more effort, and doesn't happen as often as it could. Plus the emotional stomach, as per Noxion's post, isn't always the wisest counsel. That ties in with the motivation aspect. But it's not really about 'being more adventurous with plant based food'. That doesn't capture the problem.

Even when meat is front and center a couple of rashers of bacon is a lot less than a steak.

Can you back this up?
Beef Statistics | National Beef Association
Approx 9.6 million beef cows in the UK.

From the guardian Revealed: industrial-scale beef farming comes to the UK
There about a dozen intensive beef farms in the UK with herds of up to 3,000 cows. So by my crap maths that's 36,000 cows in intensive farms out of 9.6 million beef cows in the UK. And the vegiloons claim most meat in the UK is intensively farmed. The same will also apply to sheep, pigs and poultry. What planet do you lot live on? Too thick to work it out yourselves? Or too idle?
:(

If I can work this out on the verge of dementia then what's your excuse? I would seriously get your B12 levels checked. :(

Well done you for providing a link for a change!
Why do you keep going on about my B12 levels? Is there any need for your continued digs and weird personal suggestions?

And if you make claims or dispute a post then surely you should be able to provide links to back up your claim, isn't that how it works?

Would you feed that to a vegetarian? If you make a stew with 25% meat and 75% veg, it's still a meat dish, really, although I do think it's a great idea to stretch out meat... use bones and, if you're a meat eater anyway, have a go at offal and the parts that might otherwise go to waste due to being unpopular.

Of course I wouldn't feed it to a vegetarian. But why is that the test? In the context of a discussion about whether or not it is wise or acceptable or healthy to eat meat every day, 'meat dish' is a more loaded term than merely 'not suitable for vegetarians'.

I do eat offal, btw. Big fan of liver and kidneys. Tripe stew. I'm a firm believer in using the whole animal, often not as the main calorific content of the meal.

I have regularly posted links to back up claims. It's not my fault if the vegiloons can't be bothered to read them.

I keep going on about your B12 levels as your displaying some of the symptoms of low B12 levels like memory loss and poor cognitive ability. :(

You're another vegiloon that's showing signs of B12 deficiency. :(
Sorry, in what way am I supposedly "showing signs of B12 deficiency"? And why are you even introducing supposed health conditions into the discussion?

Oh, and grow the fuck up with this childish 'vegiloon' shit. If you want a serious debate, stop throwing around infantile made up words.

Comprehension problems for starters. Memory loss in that it was only a few days ago that you liked a post of mine where I said "I was relieved that my MRI scan showed a problem".

And why are you even introducing supposed health conditions into the discussion?
Don't you think it's a good idea to point out a potential medical if someone spots potential signs of one?

I may not have a choice as to whether my memory and understanding is compromised due to thinning of my parietal lobe but if you or anyone else is having problems due to possible B12 deficiency then you do have a choice to do something about it. I wish I had the choice. :(

I think you suggesting that other posters are suffering mental health problems - and then insulting them with made up words - just to try and win an online argument is pretty much beyond the fucking pale, actually.
