Assange: Saint or sinner?
Just read that. Excellent article. Bit grown up for on here though.

That's a bit of a cheap shot isn't it Liam?Just read that. Excellent article. Bit grown up for on here though.

The writer isn't excusing the rape (that he has admitted). The writer points out that "heroes" aren't necessarily morally squeaky clean. Some of the content of the article has already been robustly challenged during the course of the thread though eg the likelihood of the US carrying out rendition in Sweden.D'you think? How far would a poster on here get if they posted that content as their own? About two minutes before they were being harrangued, called a rape apologist etc etc. As people have been labelled... on this very thread.
So, no. I don't reckon it's a cheap shot at all.
Reading about his celebratory pizza, I have to say, un PC as it is, current images suggest he has been living entirely on Pizza Express in a dark room with maybe a bit of keep fit wanking for the past 3 years - a pallid and bloated visage looming out of the gloom.
I think it's possible to make compartmentalised judgements about Assange. I don't like him at all, don't like the hero worship he gets (beyond urban, I'm not having a dig at anyone here) and I think the rape and abuse accusations were significant enough to be investigated (to say the least). On the other hand, regardless of whether he'd be more likely to be extradited from here or Sweden, it's obviously the case the Americans would like to get their hands on him - and short of snatching him off the street they'll use every diplomatic avenue they can. He has a real fear of extradition/massive sentence, but that doesn't in itself mean he shouldn't have faced the serious allegations made against him. Most of all though, what has disgusted me is the Assange supporters who can't compartmentalise it who have been smearing the women who made the accusations as American agents and worse (along, of course with Galloway's 'sexual etiquette' line) .D'you think? So what if she's female? The writers female. And IMHO the challenge to the likelihood of extradition on this thread has been more vociferous than robust. Dr fuller has a phd in international law and may well actually know what she's talking about .
Plenty of quips and one liners, people expressing their contempt for him in the main. What's wrong with that? If you want me to respond about something more specific that's been said you'll have to direct me to it.Just go back and read the previous page .And virtually every last comment before liamos

Do you really think that's what the focus is?Limo expressed the opinion the article was a bit grown up for on here . You accused him of a cheap shot. When the threads main focus seems to be on wanking and pizzas .
"He" is Assange not the writer. You called her he

When he admitted having sex with a woman who was asleep. When did assange admit he was a rapist ?
Pesky bulletin boards with their posters stating their opinions eh.There hasn't even been a trial ffs...outside of this thread anyway
I do recall CR's line on 'sleep sex' and consent earlier in the thread (but was responding mainly to Liam). Most of all, it's this kind of stuff I had in mind in terms of Assange apologists:CR's position actually has been that if Assange did all the actions he's accused of it's not rape. There's nothing to even to be investigated. So when, earlier in the thread, you excused him from the set of people who've let their previously impeccable anti-sexist etc credentials down over this...not the case. And he's never had those credentials anyway. His is the galloway position in the extreme - which is why he'll only talk about the threat of extradition to the US and nothing else now.
The author of that piece also used well established far-right and racist sources in his book The Redneck Manifesto btw - he's never been too clean.I do recall CR's line on 'sleep sex' and consent earlier in the thread (but was responding mainly to Liam). Most of all, it's this kind of stuff I had in mind in terms of Assange apologists:
Julian Assange’s Honey Trap: That’s Rape in Sweden
That rather gets to the heart of it.When he admitted having sex with a woman who was asleep.
Okay, so why will this not be going to trial?People are entitled to make a judgement to who is telling the truth between a man and a woman in a rape accusation, what is rather shallow though is to condemn either one without a trial.
Bun fight is it ?Okay, so why will this not be going to trial?
Why make that point at this stage of the discussion?I'll tell you what Assange is not guilty of though, and that is gunning down innocent people, rather he facilitated, a freedom of the press right to uncover it.
