Aristocrat's daughter on the run with sex offender and newborn

According to a DM story I won't link, his mum says he's a good boy and wonders if they've been kidnapped. :hmm:

Her father has issued a statement urging her to "hand herself in", which suggests she's committed some crime we are not aware of.

(I might be reading too much into this, but it's not illegal to have an unassisted birth or to go into hiding, and you'd expect his statement to be police approved.)

"substantial amount of cash" could be a nudge nudge wink wink to criminality I guess unless that's her family's money.
I look forward to the 24 Hours in Police Custody episode anyway.

It has occurred to me that the pictures on the article are a bit mugshot like

She’s an aristocrat presumably with a trust fund so I doubt she needs to do bank jobs.

All that does ring alarm bells. Maybe her family did kick off when they found out who she was seeing. Understandable? Maybe they didn’t handle it well, lots of families don’t. It’s actually really hard to handle that stuff well.

I lost a long time with my best friend because I couldn’t accept her partner and support their relationship. It drove her away for a while.
Is there a good way to handle your daughter getting involved with a man who’d been in prison for 20 years for violence and rape?

edit: on reflection I think it's irresponsible of me to share that publicly

Nope! I guess the advice would be keep your cool, keep communication open etc

Most of us would probably lose our shit at least a bit!

There's an article an hour old on the Independent.

They've still got live updates although they're struggling for content now, reporting whatever's been in other places already.

I'm a bit baffled that some people are surprised that the police are hunting for this family - a newborn baby that was born in secret and not assessed medically or allowed to be seen by anyone at all, the parents are on the run having burnt their car, the father's a serious sex offender, they have enough money to go into hiding easily...

Even without the more lurid details, that's a baby and probably a woman who are at high risk.

But apparently it's all just curtain twitching.

The reports suggest they built up a 'slush fund' of saved money to do this off the radar birth and go on the run. So presumably they weren't off the radar enough for people to know she was expecting. The money will run out at some point or they'll get recognised I just hope it has a happy ending. Seems pretty nuts.

I'd wondered how you even get money out of a trust fund?

I think I interpret the slush fund as meaning they might've been withdrawing and building up an amount of cash to go on the run with? I think financial matters are covered by GDPR though so not sure where that information would come from.

I have no idea. But if she is entitled to X amount a month they could have saved from that. Either of them might have been working also but the suggestion that the sum could be 'substantial' and keep them going a while, thus avoiding detection via cash machines, made me think of whatever is set up for her.

Discussing a news report? Hardly the same as sniffing someone's pants on their washing line, or going through their bins, to determine what they've been up to.
Confidently speculating on details and motives from one news story with very few facts given is not really a worthy discussion to be had

I think it matters because if the consensus becomes 'none of our business' then you're basically colluding in ignoring a woman and child possibly needing immediate medical attention.
