Becoming estranged from her family because of his colour is plausible, but her friends and studies also? That’s less plausible.
It has occurred to me that the pictures on the article are a bit mugshot likeHer father has issued a statement urging her to "hand herself in", which suggests she's committed some crime we are not aware of.
(I might be reading too much into this, but it's not illegal to have an unassisted birth or to go into hiding, and you'd expect his statement to be police approved.)
She’s an aristocrat presumably with a trust fund so I doubt she needs to do bank jobs."substantial amount of cash" could be a nudge nudge wink wink to criminality I guess unless that's her family's money.
I look forward to the 24 Hours in Police Custody episode anyway.
Is there a good way to handle your daughter getting involved with a man who’d been in prison for 20 years for violence and rape? All that does ring alarm bells. Maybe her family did kick off when they found out who she was seeing. Understandable? Maybe they didn’t handle it well, lots of families don’t. It’s actually really hard to handle that stuff well.
I lost a long time with my best friend because I couldn’t accept her partner and support their relationship. It drove her away for a while.
Her brother’s wife is black and they had a big society wedding so doesn’t seem to particularly be a race issue.Becoming estranged from her family because of his colour is plausible, but her friends and studies also? That’s less plausible.
Nope! I guess the advice would be keep your cool, keep communication open etcIs there a good way to handle your daughter getting involved with a man who’d been in prison for 20 years for violence and rape?
The story appears to have vanished from news sites
Old links though. Not in headlines now, need to search a bit. Both the Guardian & BBC links in the first few posts on the thread are still live.
That's pretty risible.
But apparently it's all just curtain twitching.I'm a bit baffled that some people are surprised that the police are hunting for this family - a newborn baby that was born in secret and not assessed medically or allowed to be seen by anyone at all, the parents are on the run having burnt their car, the father's a serious sex offender, they have enough money to go into hiding easily...
Even without the more lurid details, that's a baby and probably a woman who are at high risk.
the parents are on the run having burnt their car
The reports suggest they built up a 'slush fund' of saved money to do this off the radar birth and go on the run. So presumably they weren't off the radar enough for people to know she was expecting. The money will run out at some point or they'll get recognised I just hope it has a happy ending. Seems pretty nuts.
I have no idea. But if she is entitled to X amount a month they could have saved from that. Either of them might have been working also but the suggestion that the sum could be 'substantial' and keep them going a while, thus avoiding detection via cash machines, made me think of whatever is set up for her.I'd wondered how you even get money out of a trust fund?
I think I interpret the slush fund as meaning they might've been withdrawing and building up an amount of cash to go on the run with? I think financial matters are covered by GDPR though so not sure where that information would come from.
