Andor (Star Wars)

Another great episode, but

Cinta just showing up like that felt a bit contrived - is she working with the Empire or was that just lazy writing? Given the standard of writing I lean towards the former.
The character referred to in your spoiler was the least interesting one in this episode, and I actually reckon it would have been better without it- it slowed the pace and was a distraction from the other storylines. But overall yes, another solid episode.

I was disappointed but not surprised to read the other day this has so far the least viewed Star Wars Disney series, even though it’s indisputably far better than everything bar Mando. But ultimately, so long as it doesn’t result in the cancellation of S2, which I doubt it would, I don’t care. Still, it might have been better to have released this in at least three-episode chunks.

Really liked this weeks episode

the Karn / Meero scene was fantastically weird - just the right mix of pathetic, unsettling and eww[/spoiler]

Agreed. I said to my OH ‘here we have the first Star Wars universe creepy stalker’

Yes, another great episode. Its pace is a tease- I kept pausing it to check the remaining time on the episode because I wanted what’s going to happen to fucking happen already :D I should really wait so I can watch all at once, but fat chance of that.

I’ll say this as well. This series is succeeding as portraying the Empire as more cruel and villainous than ever before, and without needing to kill billions of people with one laser shot to prove their evilness.

The ISB scenes are a highlight , they've really captured how those sorts of organizations function - one or two terrifyingly brilliant people (Meero and Partagaz here) driving everything, with the rest a mix of bullies, hangers on and scam artists. They've even got how nonentities act up in order to curry favour with them, and how everyone piles in behind something fashionable when it appears to work. As a study of evil its brilliant.

Dedra Meero is brilliant. If she doesn’t turn out to be Tarkin’s daughter, I’ll be disappointed.

TBF I'd be disappointed if she was.

Also was there another hint there that Cinta is working with the Empire? Meero said that Maarva's house was being watched, which we know Cinta is doing.

That is the first episode that left me a bit underwhelmed.

The prison breakout scene for example - how the two guys in the control room were just left there by everyone (especially as Andor just executed one right before then and they were just about to kill every prisoner in the facility), or the people swimming off in all directions rather than towards the closest bit of land. Also the Rael scene where he basically just did an exposition speech, needlessly (as the series has showed us what he has been doing already).

I liked we have had a little trilogy in the middle of the series.

Which is great as I came into the show not wanting to like it. Now I do, job done. :)

EDIT, must stop posting from the pub. apols for tpyos.

What were they making in the prison factory? Death Star parts? :hmm:
That’s my guess after this episode too.

Anyway, I was a bit concerned about this episode after reading a couple of comments here, but I rather enjoyed it myself. And actually more than a few other episodes so far.

Yes, it was good but
now they need to do a new backstory to explain how the rebels designed the prison factories so you could disable them by cutting through the water pipe in your cell.

Even though I was once or twice confused about the subplots (or rather, some of the characters talked about in the subplots), I really enjoyed today's episode.

By now it should have become plenty clear this is a slow-burning, plot driven SW story, and I have become accustomed to it, so frustrating as it is to have just one episode per week, I'm really enjoying this. This is a thinking man's SW series anyway (yes, get your oxymoron jibes out of your system now), and I suspect cheap thrill seekers have been long been weeded out by now. Still, I reckon Disney would have had far better viewing figures for the wider, dumber public if they'd dumped the entire season in one go.

Even though I have known B2 for far less than any other SW droids, I felt far more sorry for him in this episode than all other droids in the franchise.

Another takeout for me was how the very carefully managed amount of proper action sequences/ space battles in this series makes you appreciate the little crumbs of it we are being served so much more. The confrontation between Rael and the satellite dish Imperial ship felt more exciting than many of the suppossedly awesome full-on space battles in the prequel and sequel fims

Indeed, personally I thought it was a welcome return to form after the dip of last week.

did anyone else think the bit right after he found out that his mum had died was a reminder of his death in Rogue One?

I disagree about them dumping it in one go = higher viewer figures though; I think people would have either turned it off or binged it (and either way missed the brilliance of it). One episode a week means you savour every moment of it, from how Karn's mums bedside cabinet works to how do transponders work in the SW universe of this period?

I don’t mind having to wait at all- I am simply fearful the lower ratings might influence Disney’s future series commissioning decision making. At least this is both confirmed to run to two seasons, and more importantly written from the off as a rounded two-season series that doesn’t rely on popularity. Still saddens me a little that people over 18 who love or are supposed to love the franchise can’t appreciate this is a different beast.

Agree about the mum bit you say. Also enjoying the developing background family story of Mon Mothma. I think it’s a fair bet to guess personal tragedy lies in store for her- which would line up nicely with her solemn and sad demeanour in the original SW films

Just watched the season finale.

So many highlights - Brasso beating people with Maarva, the way the Imperial officer in charge of the parade tried (and failed) to cut the holo off, the stormtrooper being booted out of the tower, the look on Karn's face when him and Dedra were in that closet. All in all a great setup for the next season, just a shame we have to wait so long for it.
