Alex Jones - Two Stops Past Barking?

Nobody was trying to defeat him by rational arguments: I agree with you that that would have been pointless.

Nothing discredited Alex Jones except...Alex Jones. He had - and I can appreciate people's uncomfortableness with this - an opportunity to appear on mainstream TV and look credible. He spunked it up the wall by appearing on mainstream TV and looking like the kind of eyepopping loon that nobody - apart from some other eye-popping loon - could possibly take seriously.

That's the perception of someone outside the conspiracist loop.
Alex Jones didn't spunk it up. The link will be sent by conspiracists to show other ordinary non-politicised people how the self-satisfied elite dismiss the idea that the Euro is a Bilderberg plot, which Alex Jones was simply trying to get people to consider.
Aaronovitch tried to attack him on non-Bilderberg grounds about cancer and flourine which got Alex Jones pissed off.

i call them lunatics, nutters etc (and worse) but it's the assumption that if you believe this stuff you must literally believe it's lizards etc that i object to, it's the idea that these people believe the shit they do because they are insnane and they need to have their medication changed, and for that reason their beliefs, and the consequences of those beliefs are not a problem

Jones tried to make people believe the European Union was a Nazi plot.. I don't think he will find many converts to that idea.

I haven't seen that being an issue on this thread, or is it a more general point that you're making?

frogwoman you say that Jones is an anti-Semite, I haven't actually seen evidence of that, do you have any links to relevant online material about this?

Note I am not questioning that he is a loony conspiraloon as he patently is but I have not seen evidence of anti-Semitism or racism for that matter and I don't want the mental pollution of trawling through hours of videos if someone has a focussed link.

he is yes, and a racist (against black people and mexicans) i gave a link in the first part of this thread, at work now so can't go looking

It might have been a better idea if Jones had been put in a booth and his mic only turned on when he was asked to answer a specific point.

With a delay so you could have the audio switched on only when he was actually answering the point.

The thing about Jones is that he can come over as perfectly calm and reasonable, give others space to speak etc., but only in the presence of other loons. When on the mainstream media he just goes fucking mental. The first time I thought it was maybe nerves/jetlag/caffeine or whatever, but he's so consistent with it that it's obviously just a way of keeping the mainstream media at arms length.

I don't think it's that, it's just his attempt at showmanship - it's pure Barnum.

I followed up a link that someone posted on this thread, and it's certainly beyond doubt on the basis of that that he holds some pretty strongly anti-Semitic (and racist) views. I think his anti-Semitism is part and parcel of his general view that there is an elite conspiracy aimed at controlling the world, rather than being "standalone" anti-Semitism, and it's somewhat at odds with his view that this elite conspiracy is also Nazi-based (I'm sure he has a way of wriggling around that one), but I can see how anyone who is remotely sensitive to the way Jews have been portrayed by anti-Semites would be made to feel profoundly uncomfortable by his claims.

In a way, it's one of the reasons I'm glad he made that TV appearance - it gave me a starting point to go off and explore a little bit more about him, rather than the endless stream of (endless) YouTube videos he spews out.

I don't buy that - even on the Howard Stern show talking about the Piers Morgan thing he could hardly have been more chilled and genial. Andrew Neil said that the moment the cameras stopped rolling Jones just stopped his rant - it's completely specific to the audience - the more credible the platform the less credible he makes himself appear.

If the CIA are paying him in millions he's still a bargain.

which is why i don't think that the BBC and the fucking howard stern show and piers morgan etc should be helping him to become a celebrity.

Being relaxed elsewhere doesn't mean this isn't showmanship though - if anything it re-inforces the idea that he employs these tactics quite deliberately when he gets a larger mainstream audience to funnel them towards his other stuff. That he doesn't do it elsewhere shows that he is aware of what he is doing and who he is trying to do it to and that he can and does turn it on and off depending on who he is talking to. I can't see it as defensive at all.

I think we're saying the same thing here. I mean he goes bonkers in front of the mainstream media (appearing totally non-credible, but throwing out the right 'trigger phrases') in order to put off most people (you can't be an iconoclastic lone voice when everyone agrees with you), and to draw in those people who are already exploring the area and will be drawn in by the triggers.

There is some internet speculation that maybe they are ...

Can anyone give an example of his antisemitism? A quick google hasn't brought up anything concrete - in fact it brought up links to Jones criticising Icke's antisemitism.

He tends to do the thing whereby its the jews who really run things but its not because they're jewish it's just a group thing. He is married to a (christian) jewish woman btw and is very aware of the need to appear as being against anti-semitism. His wariness around the issue is clear in this vid.

His antisemitism is the general Rothschild conspiracism stuff, not the harder impose quotas on Hollywood and New York financial firms to stop Jews going above the 3% limit.

eg

There's tonnes of it.

His treatment of someone who carries the Rothschild surname is odd to say the least:

The guy, David Mayer de Rothschild, has no relation to any banking firm and is a climate change charity guy. But Jones suggests he is part of a conspiracy against the people.

He's been interviewed by dozens of press from all over the world. I think people shouldn't interview him - his views are out there he puts them out there himself and is also slippery/shifting/malleable (can be a very good anti-racist in any interview) and he has no recognised office (unlike Nick Griffin as MEP where that line could be used).

C4 showed Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove? Are you quite sure?
yeah if thats what it was called - i remember it clearly as I was on a working holiday in Scotland and there was nothing to do in the evenings and it was on TV, and there were only the 4 channels to pick up there. I could try and work out exactly when it was but id guess around 2001. My memory of it was he tries to sneak in a couple of times and gets caught, but by then end someone (supposedly him) does get in and films it with a covert camera. We watched it not by chance, I think C4 were running trails for it.

I think that you're confusing it with 2001 Jon Ronson series Secret Rulers of the World for C4 which showed extensive footage from Jones film. I'm pretty sure c4 would not show two hours of that tripe.

Those Keiser deletions actually highlight what i was saying about Jones being wary of overt public anti-semitism - Keiser operates on the same lines.

You sure it wasn't the Jon Ronson 4-part docu which featured AJ?
