Album Recommendations: 2024 Edition

Oh my fucking lord. Theres a new The The album, Ensoulment, coming out in September. The first one this century. It has been pre-ordered.
As a teen I was more than obsessed. The The did something special to me. I think everyone has their big teen 'band' and Matt Johnson was mine.
I love pretty much everything from Controversial Subject to the last song on Infected. . . . but then it drops off a cliff edge. I think the only song I ever liked after that was Loney Planet.
I don't understand what happened or what it was that made everything else great. Even all the unreleased 'Pornography' stuff like 'Screw Up Your Feelings' (original perfect) and No Hiding place (original Slow Train), Matts Gadgetts tracks. . . .
I just can't get excited anymore. The first track off the new LP is another flatline.

I have come to the conclusion that Thurwell had a lot more to do with the production on Infected than is given credit, I suspect Hardiman on Soul Mining too (as it's clean tight production varies so much from the singles and rather shoddy demos . . . but I do still like those shoddy demos and earier versions of Infected songs like 'Leap into the Wind' (though clearly not as good or polished).

I remember being so gutted when The Beaten Generation came out and have been hopeful that something better might emerge ever since . . . but it never has.
Even when he plays the old songs live now there is something missing. It just sounds dreadful. The multiple rerecordings of This is the day and Uncertain Smile are worse than pub cover versions.

Final (?) offering from James Cargill of demos from Broadcast. Seemingly not edited/remixed and in their original state , allegedly their fifth album would have been drawn from this.

edit: not the final as there is another collection of earlier demos being released in July 2024

Bring Me The Horizon dropped Post Human: NexGen last night.

Fucking hell. It's such a Mish mash of styles but still BMTH.

Stunning.

New Camera Obscura came out in May, doesn't seem to be on Bandcamp but there's a youtube playlist, and presumably streaming on other services:

Didn't fall wildly in love based on a casual listen to the first few songs, but maybe it's a grower.

Landless - Lúireach
Irish Folk with sparse instrumentation, produced by John ‘Spud’ Murphy [ØXN member & Lankum producer, Cormac MacDiarmada also contributes].

Liking the sound of the Actress. Not so much of a head-mash as is typically the case - not that I've got anything against having my head mashed....
