Your daily cat and kitten news

So I'm sweating a bit walking up Mt Olympus. At 1300m I find a couple carrying their cats up.

I wonder if you have to put sunblock on them if they're outdoors?
I bet you do.
They're quite prone to skin problems anyway because fur usually wicks oils away from the skin - those you actually need to bathe to keep their skin healthy
They also eat a ton to keep their body temperature up.
It's a natural mutation and they are quite lovely cats, but they definitely wouldn't survive in the wild.

I expect they would have to, it's bad enough with white cats so with no fur at all they'd probably get sun damage.

My uncle had to put sun block on his white cat's ears or she'd get sunburn - she was also deaf which apparently is common in white cats.
My sister's ex' cat got skin cancer on his ears.

(I'm shallow, naked cats and naked rats wig me out a bit - I think it's the folds )

Hey Urbs. I've decided I want to start looking for a studio garden flat now I've got enough saved and was wondering when the best time in the process is to tell the landlord about Lilith (I could just not mention it I guess, but then I risk eviction if they find out). Would you tell them on the phone during the initial enquiry, at the viewing or when you come and sign the tenancy?

dunno really.

there was a proposal to make it at least less legal for landlords to have a 'no pets' rule, but it didn't happen with the election being called. it may re-surface in the new government's plans, but that may take a while.

cats protection have some advice here.

i'd be inclined to mention it up front (and certainly before you get to the point of handing any money over), so as not to waste time / generate hassle later, but opinions may vary.

One for the good news side of things:

He had that newfangled antibody injection that reduces pain caused by osteo-arthritis last Monday.
For the last couple of days he's been making it to the litter tray and weeing in inappropriate places has almost ceased.
He's running around more than he was.
He's also eating well again, without leaving chunks of food or dropping bits out of his mouth - maybe he was having some jaw pain before, but he's been scoffing like a good'un the last couple of days.
I wasn't expecting it to work that fast, but hopefully it's making a difference already.
I hope he doesn't get any side effects (apparently it can cause itching and skin irritation).
£100 a month tho  😫

Can't work out what reaction to click;
❤️ Obvs for Jakey running around and eating well
🤗 For how complicated your feelings must be
😮 For £100 per month

Oh and everything Callie said.
Also Callie you and everyone like you (a lot of people on this thread for starters) is what keeps me coming back to Urban.

Carrie is not stupid. She realised I was locking the catflap at bedtime and has started strategically being out at that time.

She seems to be spending more time outdoors now it's cold and wet than she was before  I have this slight fear as I did when she wasn't eating her wet food that she's got a second home lined up :hmm: but she does always come back.

It's an argument for putting a collar on her which I still haven't even attempted.

Making friends with stray kittens. They're so hungry :(

Obviously not been handled. Mum will rub up against you, but can't get close to the kittens. I want to take them home. And show Katniss how spoiled she is when she decides she doesn't like that flavour of whiskers today.

Arnold will be going to the vet tomorrow as he's got a sore lump on the edge of his mouth. He had it and the vet gave him painkillers and antibiotics and it seemed to be sorted but it's come back and now looks very red. Hopefully it can be sorted again.

I hope you can find a cause and a treatment!

Might be worth asking about eosinophilic granuloma which is a weird type of allergic/immune reaction that often involves sores and swellings on the lips - I mean I'm not a vet and of course there could be plenty of other causes, but this is one I'm a bit familiar with as Radar had it at one point (a steroid jab cleared it up ok and it didn't return, but it turned out he was allergic to some plastics including his food bowl!)

Poor baby, I hope they sort it out. Wishing him a speedy recovery!
