I'd had the vet say to me once that having impaired kidney function feels sort of like having a low level virus all the time. So they definitely perk up a bit with the fluids. I'm so happy Jakey took to it, my old cat would just growl through the whole experience and I had to give up on it.It's amazing how fluids can perk them up....I suppose it flushes a lot of toxins out of the body.
Sleeping on the sofa with him tonight sounds like a good plan as you won't get much restful sleep if you're not in the same room as him as you'll be worrying about him. I've been in that situation too often myself.
Fucking busybody, Polly. Give 'em hell.I've just got back from a week away and someone has put flea treatment on Ken. I'm fuming. I suspected someone had put some on ryu before I went but couldn't be sure. It's in the same spot on their right shoulder, which is a totally inappropriate place that they can reach, and they wear prescription strength flea collars so shouldn't have any more chemicals anyway. Not to mention they are my fucking cats. I'm pretty sure I know who it was, a lunatic who lives to the back of me so I'm going round there tomorrow.
Good luck tomorrow!Vet wants Jakey back in again tomorrow for a 3rd day, apparently "the bag of fluids is open, might as well use it as it won't cost any more" so going to take him in again.
That means his leg is still bandaged tonight and I'm going to have to look after him on the sofa for a 2nd night, last night he managed to wee all over me with what must have been a very full bladder, I actually had a dream that I was going swimming and woke up to find myself just a tad wet, I did have an incontinence pad down just in case so most of it went on that but I still got a fair bit on my t-shirt as he was snuggled right up close to me.
I'm so tired, the sofa is not that comfortable and I didn't sleep well.
Jakey seems to be OK though, other than struggling to get around a bit due to his bandaged up leg - they bandage it in a bent position, I think because if they bandaged it straight and the cat jumped down from something it could damage the joints? At least that seems to be the most logical explanation, I didn't think to ask as there were other more important questions.
Buttons used to hold her shit in until she’d been prodded and poked at the vet, then let fly with something that would make a horse proud. Made the exorbitant fee sting a bit less somehow. Good on JakeyJakey's back home with a massive bandage over the cannula on his front leg, can barely walk but is trying to be ridiculously lively
So it looks like I might be kipping on the sofa with him tonight to keep an eye on him as he can sort of tumble himself off the sofa but struggles to get back up.
He was very good at the vets, not at all stressed, slept most of the day, ate all his lunch and kept it down, and held his wee in all day until the vet nurse picked him up then let go all down her front
Yay! such good news! Go JakeyJakey is back home, I've got to take the pressure bandage off in about 10 minutes but the big bandage is off and the cannula is out and he can walk normally.
He's really perked up loads, very alert, even running round a little bit which he hasn't done much of in the last few weeks (which we notice in hindsight, you know what it's like when there's a very gradual decline) and his coat is soft and silky.
We have to take him in tomorrow morning to have the subcutaneous fluids tutorial session with the nurse, then we'll be doing that at home I think twice a week.
He's been having a fine old time at the vets, it's a bit like dropping him off at kitty daycare - he's very relaxed there and asks for his lunch, talks to the nurses, and demands cuddles - the head nurse has fallen completely in love with him and when we were negotiating a pick up time (as N is back on night shifts today and he is required for cat carrying duties) she cheerfully said not to worry if we couldn't pick him up, he could live with her
When we picked him up she said that she'd noticed he won't wee if he's by himself but if she puts him in the litter tray and puts her hand on his tummy he'll go, which might give us some ideas about how to handle his continence issue. She also said she'd noticed he was a bit thick (although she put it in a bit of a nicer way )
So fingers crossed that he takes to the subQ routine at home, if all goes well it could give him a new lease of life for a bit. He really is much more alert and energetic this evening - still just wanting cuddles, but more alert rather than sleeping.

I don’t know much about cats but I’m surprised this one is so happy being outside when it’s dark and not exactly tropical, if dry
I could understand if she’s roaming around, but to choose to perch on a car bonnet? I don’t think the bonnets are still warm from driving
Perhaps she is sulky for some reason with her owners

She's planning her next mousing expedition!Carrie I've noticed is less bothered about finding the warmest place than the place with the best vantage point. That's a safety thing. She wants to be at least waist height with a good view all round. Cosiness is important but comes second.
