Your daily cat and kitten news

Damn, I didn't catch it on my phone, but Vastra was doing some adorable whisker, ear and paw twitching in her sleep this evening!
I love it when they are clearly having a great dream!
Radar used to have nightmares occasionally, all his fur would stand on end and his tail would puff up and he'd be whining :(
I think Jakey mostly dreams about eating though. :D

As promised

Finally managed to get a urine sample from Jakey.
Angel is back from leave and reviewed Jakey's notes from when he was away.
He's a bit concerned about protein in his urine from the last test, so we're doing full panel again to get an idea of how his kidneys are coping - whether he's not great but relatively stable, or whether he's starting to decline further more rapidly - I'm fine with that even though it's a bit more costy, as we're having other tests done anyway and it's not invasive/stressful to Jakey might as well do the whole lot at once and get some idea of how he's doing more generally.

He seems nice and perky at the moment, eating well, enjoying life, only small nuggets of poo though which might be due to further decline in his kidney function - I'd rather know, if that makes sense.

I think I'd be considering in the bin after that :(
On the day we moved house, our late cat Miss Buttons was less than happy about her world being turned upside down. I let her out of the carrier to explore her new surroundings and she tentatively went down the stairs, saw Mrs SFM’s coat (one of those shiny leather look ones fashionable in the late 90s) and deposited the most unbelievable amount of shit on it. Mrs SFM was aghast. I said we could wash it. She put it straight in the bin.

Just been down to get the tripod her microchip [that's cost me £15].
Apart from yelling both ways in the car, Beauty was well-behaved.

Just wonder how a farmer with feral cats on t'farm will be managing this ?

pettings were requested and provided.

i'm not sure if this was an invitation for tummy rubs, but i'm not trying that with a kitty i don't know very well (think i've briefly met her once or twice before)

met this kitteh again this evening when i went out to post something (post box is emptied before / during the morning post round, so you either have to get up early or post stuff of an evening)

got the 'run in front of you then stop' thing three times when i stopped petting her, and might have been there for some time, but someone came along with a dog and she decided to make a retreat...

A few days ago Ken killed a wood pigeon and I left the carcass at the back of the garden to feed the insects etc. This morning the cats were circling in a weird anxious way so I went over and there was a massive hedgehog with its head buried in the pigeon, feasting away ♥️ I haven't seen a live one since I was a kid, it was very exciting. And I feel glad that my cats did something good for wildlife, for once.

And I always assumed hedgehogs were vegetarians.

technically hedgepigs are insectivorous, eating a lot of beetles, but they don't turn down other things that they come across on their night time wanderings ...
don't feed 'em milk / bread nor fish-based cat food.

I've read that they're often starving these days, due to depletion of insect populations :( so I was glad it could stuff its face.

They will eat just about anything - When the store near me had a hot chicken counter, I used to get a big bag of wings and legs for pennies at the end of the night and had Hedgehogs and more than a few cats coming into my garden from all around for a good feed. I think nine individual Hedgehogs was the most I counted at one time. :D

Massive Hedgehog - Almost certainly a Female and possibly pregnant. Keep-up with the scraps and look out for more soon. :D

They just love hot chips IME - If I make any late night chips, I often find a Hog or two waiting in the grass by my back door, noses in the air, hopefully! :)

The nearer one is the female and the males can get so fearless that they will toddle right-up and take chips from your hand. :)

Oh my god I'm so envious!! They're so cool. I'm nervous about encouraging them because of the cats. Are they pretty cat-proof? Both of mine are in full on kill mode at the moment :/
