Your daily cat and kitten news

The last couple of days Jakey has gone right off his pill putty which is our usual stress free method of getting pills into him.
Got his last dose of antibiotics into him via the traditional human vs feline pilling method, but found his fortekor (which he has to be on daily for the rest of his life) spat out about half an hour after trying to administer it a couple of hours later.
This is a fucking nightmare 😭
Don't know what your pill putty is, but I used to use cheese -- heat it up a bit, then make a few cheese balls. Offer the cat some lovely cheese treats, and after two or three slip the one in that had the pill inside. Then a few more cheese balls to make up for the outrage.

Unfortunately I fear that may cause a pacreatitis flare up.
I'll consider if it becomes an issue getting his daily pill into him.

I'd say they were both guarding the borders of their "exclusive" territories. :D
It’s an illegal incursion into each others territories Dexter should be where Rocco is. I tried to negotiate a ceasefire but was interrupted by a new visitor. Meet one eyed rescue cat Milo from the neighbours on the left, Roccos owners . The first time Milo’s been allowed outside.
He’s climbed over the fence into my garden. Kaz Milos owner can hear me talk to him but can’t see .
Talking through the fence Kaz is asking if Milo is OK . I mentioned Milo vaulted over the fence by getting halfway up , digging his claws in and launching himself to the top of the fence.
I told Kaz Milo is going to be fine .

And he's not pissed on the towel/puppy pad combo on my lap this afternoon/evening, and there is some evidence of use of the litter trays in terms of weeing.
He seems pretty much back to normal now tbh, although I am still a bit worried about potential urine-related accidents (is it horribly wrong of me that I don't feel I want to have him back in bed with me at night? At least not for a while).
Hopefully this is a turning point.

I have to get a urine sample off him tomorrow which should be fun

Since she became our only cat, she has been spending more time in some of the spaces more usually occupied by one of the other two. Particularly ,she's adopted this chair (ugly heirloom) in our bay window that never belonged to anyone.

She looks very comfy on it. (Slightly dodge photo due to low light levels and not wanting to disturb)

Two previous cats were both into catnip, but the current cat doesn't get anything ...

she has several catnip toys, which she plays with and completely ignores the catnip content.

Went to the vets today for the annual vacinne/health check...

It was a new vet there, and I mentioned that he had asthma - had it diagnosed about 4 years ago.

They immediately started suggesting x-rays and then an inhaler.. all in all the quote came to £1,700.

I'm quite dubious about it, given that several other vets have said nothing much about it, despite knowing he has it..

I can probably get on insurance, so the money isn't the issue, I'm just not convinced he needs the treatment.

Bit pissed off as the practice has been excellent so far..

I've had the back patio door and windows open all day, which has meant a few insects have come in to peruse the place. Several times I've seen the furry one chase after them furiously, only to bail on actually killing the critters. I don't think he'll ever be a hunter.

Still trying to get a urine sample from Jakey (in occasionally comedic circumstances) - this is to check that the course of antibiotics completely cleared out the e.coli infection in his bladder, if not he'll have a second course of different antibiotics (hopefully not the horrible caustic one that can cause oesophagitis!)

He's also quite constipated atm - he is defecating, but just a small number of hard little nuggets which seem to require disproportionate effort to expel, instead of his usual fragrant and well proportioned offerings. :(

I'm hoping it's just a "had a course of antibiotics and just come off a load of drugs" gastric complaint rather than a more serious issue (CKD can sometimes result in dehydration and constipation as a result of that, especially in later stages of the progression of the condition where any water ingested is going straight through without the kidneys using it to clear out toxins) however his breath smells normal, and I know from experience with Sonic that typically results in a terribly faecal smell in the breath and mouth - nothing like that atm
If I still can't get a sample off him before Monday, I'll see if I can get him seen by a vet then (and of course will take him to the out of hours hospital if anything gets worse in the meantime).

Other than that, he actually seems not too bad - small weeing incident on a puppy pad on my lap on Wednesday (I think) evening, but he seems to be at least aiming for the litter trays now (EDIT: spoke too soon, he just urinated on my lap while I was typing this out :( ) - sometimes toileting over the edge, but he's always been a bit haphazard about that. Keep your fingers crossed for my little Jakey Pink Panther.

Fingers crossed Jakey boy!

Had a shocker of a week with these two - Dobey went all lethargic and weird on Tuesday and his back legs wouldn't work, and the vet thought it was from eating something inappropriate or being bitten in a fight or hit by a car  so they took blood (shaved his lovely chest ) and sent us home for a few hours, during which time he became significantly worse and red hot. They couldn't work out what it was, but ruled out poison and decided to try an anti-inflammatory injection. I asked, 'Do you think this is something that Trafford might catch?' and he assured me it absolutely wasn't.

The next morning, Trafford was half dead in his basket, limp and eyes wobbling about everywhere. Couldn't get up or anything. Took him in, and they gave him the same injection straight away. We came home with a liquid form of the drug which we've been trying to get in them every 24 hours. Dobey got back to normal in a couple of days, and Trafford is getting there, although he's still not jumping easily. No idea what it was, presumably a nasty virus.

Normal service on the cuddle front has resumed, so hopefully we can put it behind us.

Poor lad, that must have been scary for both him and you. I hope he recovers very soon.
