Your daily cat and kitten news

What a bloody week at the cat charity I volunteer at

Mable a lovely friendly torti who became a proper lap cat has been rehomed, which is good but I'll miss her, but she was a bit bossy

Marmalade, another torti has stated to come out of her shell now that Mable has gone. But her tabby sister started the week with an element of paralysis in her back legs which then worked up her body until, well, she's no longer with us

Another Feral mum had one maybe two of her kittens still born

Matt a lovely chunky black Tom who looks like he's done too many arm days and not enough leg days is still lovely

A black and white tom was brought in, he'd been abandoned and was in a terrible state. He lasted less than a week. His death has upset me more than it should

But to make up for it I've had some kitten therapy as there's another litter of 7 kittens doing well at the moment and four more Feral kittens that are about to be introduced into a room of 6 or 7 cats and so they'll be starting their socialising

If I remember kittehpixs to follow

Had a shocker of a week with these two - Dobey went all lethargic and weird on Tuesday and his back legs wouldn't work, and the vet thought it was from eating something inappropriate or being bitten in a fight or hit by a car  so they took blood (shaved his lovely chest ) and sent us home for a few hours, during which time he became significantly worse and red hot. They couldn't work out what it was, but ruled out poison and decided to try an anti-inflammatory injection. I asked, 'Do you think this is something that Trafford might catch?' and he assured me it absolutely wasn't.

The next morning, Trafford was half dead in his basket, limp and eyes wobbling about everywhere. Couldn't get up or anything. Took him in, and they gave him the same injection straight away. We came home with a liquid form of the drug which we've been trying to get in them every 24 hours. Dobey got back to normal in a couple of days, and Trafford is getting there, although he's still not jumping easily. No idea what it was, presumably a nasty virus.

Normal service on the cuddle front has resumed, so hopefully we can put it behind us.

That must have been terrifying... wishing them all the best for a swift recovery

Such fragile little lives, in the great scheme of things, but bring us such great pleasure when it goes well. Thanks for looking after them.

A joint food delegation - after a week of squabbling over who gets to sit in a bag upstairs. I suspect that, if I provide a second bag to settle the ownership dispute, they’ll lose interest and find something else to fight about.

Even though my Sonic and Jakey adored one another and were bestest buddies joined at the hip, they still squabbled regularly over who owned what - that's cats for you!

But why is it over the most silly things? A couple of weeks ago, it was about who sat where on the bed - my pillow being the source of the dispute. I suppose I should be flattered 😀

I think what seems silly to us is probably the most important thing to them as highly territorial animals.
They just have a very very different view of the world. I am curious about what it must look like to them - territorial hotspots and visually being able to see moving things better than stationary or unchanging things (that last bit is a little ADHD according to N)
Jakey has only become my lap cat since Sonic died, and I realise that is because Sonic had claimed it - not even using violence, but just by staring and other cat body language.
Occasionally Sonic would allow Jakey on my lap with him, but often that was not tolerated.
They were still best friends though, largely because Jakey accepted Sonic's dominance of my lap. His spot where he had the upper paw was the cat bed on the sofa next to me, where he allowed Sonic to curl up with him - but hasn't gone near since Sonic died.

Bumped into Rahrah who was up for pettings as usual. So soft! So friendly! So gentle!

Also popped into the V&And I showed immense restraint and didn't take a picture of every lion sculpture made by someone who had never seen a lion but had seen a cat.
Loved this little guy though

We think so.
The alleyway leads to a primary school and Rahah seems to know how to read the time and is often there expecting pettings from the children at home time.
That behaviour sounds very Ragdoll - they do love a bit of attention :)
They are great cats for families with children, tend to be quite calm and tolerant.

Looks like Coco the ragdoll from the other end is our street. Much excitement from the kids when he turned up in our front garden, but I told them to keep the front door shut, as from what I've heard, he will come inside given half a chance, the cheeky sod!

He's finally taken a shit - 2x too small and too hard nuggets, but alert level has been reduced from "urgent vet visit tomorrow out of fear he might burst" to "phone the vet and ask for advice".
I still need to try to get a urine sample tomorrow to check for any remaining bacterial infection in his bladder.
Still might end up taking him in this week if the poo situation doesn't improve, just on the basis that it could signal a worsening of his CKD causing dehydration - I'm aware this all could be part of a general decline in his condition.

But for the moment he has produced a bit of poo, seems alert and lively enough for his age, and is eating ok - not as well as usual, but he's not refusing to eat or anything.
