that's just bollox. you're talking bollox now. bill and ben hats ffs? get a link up or GTFO.

It's ok BM, we've won the argument here by such a large margin, it's sticks and stones time for the Oasis haters.

We can only go so far in departing our wisdom to these philistines but you can take a horse to water but you can't make it drink, Oasis or not.

Incidentally, I found this 6Music 'Britpop' listeners poll from last year...

1. Common People by Pulp
2. Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve
3. Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis
4. Wonderwall by Oasis
5. Parklife by Blur
6. Animal Nitrate by Suede
7. Girls & Boys by Blur
8. Slight Return by The Bluetones
9. Disco 2000 by Pulp
10. Girl From Mars by Ash

on the frontman thing.

Jarvis was very much in the 'charismatic/exotic misfit' mold - like jonny rotten, morrisey, brett anderson - wheras Liam was 'gobby lad from your local pub' - his ordinariness was part of his appeal I guess - lots of young blokes could look at him and think "that could be me up there". Bloke rock is very much what oasis were.

Basically what I said

from 2.30 in that vid is the best "rapid eye movement" representation i think i've seen.

Easy.

1. JC was a 90's hipster, never wore soccer hooligan clobber unlike Liam.

2. JC always looked like he was in desperate need of a good fish & chip supper inside him.

3. His song "common people" was a sneer at the working class.

4. He would have had his head kicked in if he ever walked down a "common people's" street, even if he was giving away free drugs or fizzy pop.

5. He wasn't Liam Gallagher nor ever was in Oasis.

Really?

Don't think Oasis broke it in U.S, unlike the Beatles either
Because they didn't realise that playing half a dozen shows in NYC and LA doesn't break America. Touring for weeks on end in every decent sized city across at least 20 states might. And then doing it again

Maybe Americans have more taste than we give them credit for.

looks like it's been made official chaps - put away your childish, obscurantist ways and bow before the king

I liked Liam's swagger and wearing of Stone Island clothing.

Noel was the quiet reserved one, but he had to be as he wrote all their songs.

Liam seemed to revel in turning up late at gigs coked up to the eye balls with a tambourine he would hit occasionally out of synch before smashing it off the deck then having a stare out competition with the crowd in between shouting out some lyrics.

Magic :D

And, how many people do you know who knew a girl called Elsa who's into Alka Seltzer?

Liam did
I think Elsa was a dog in a recording studio in Liverpool.

Apart from all their Big Star rip offs, the fannies peddled the exact same jingle jangle gibberish as Oasis yet never quite made it. Makes you think.

I'd contend that the Fannies' lyrics make a bit more sense, and are a bit more "poetic" content-wise than a lot of Oasis's offerings.

Oasis should've covered Starsign and made the fannies a few bob. I don't care about shit lyrics really. The shitter the better. I was listening to The Cult last night, so funny. 'LIZARD IN A BODOWL YEAH"

Subjective again?

It's all subjective, and it's always subjective. Music appeals primarily emotionally - it makes us feel happy/sad/uplifted/depressed etc - so how we view particular pieces of music/music and lyrics can't be objective.
Subjectively, I have little feeling about Oasis's output, because their tunes never engaged me emotionally. For me they were background muzak, as was Blur's output. There were too many other bands that did engage me emotionally at the time to spare much attention for the twin peaks of Brit-Pop.

Reminds me of a mate saying "I listened to a Theatre of Hate comp yesterday, and thought 'what the fuck was Kirk Brandon on about?' even though I was a massive fan back in the day!":D
