The Stranglers. Opinions?

Not nearly noisy or shouty or raw enough. The Clash were too polished. Proper punk is fast and loud and raucous. The Americans were better at it than the Brits IMO.
Shouty enough in 1976-77! Polished they were not. They learned to play though, by 1979 they were slick musos!

Why Sir Horace Cutler banned them from London when he was head of the GLC

Had to play as the Shakespearos

When I saw them once at the Rainbow with strippers they were male and female. A Judge and a Police women when Hugh was banged up in Pentonville.

All very well but that's a dreadful version of N&S.

I don't think it is that bad for an outdoor gig back in 78. Still has the throbbing bass which N&S is built around.

The Stranglers (AKA the Grandads of punk) were different because they could actually play their instruments and a lot of their songs were fairly slow and tuneful.

Rattus & No More Heroes were mostly recorded at the same time so can in a way be seen as one album & were released within six months of each other. Black & White moves on & The Raven more so.

I can remember when I was fourteen in the playground at school hanging around with my mates when a sixth former comes over and says "Was that you singing on stage with The Stranglers last night?"

Talk about bigging it up in front of your mates.:D

Stuart Pearce does sound a bit like Hugh Cornwall. Gone back to there old sound. Does anyone know if it Dave Greenfield on keyboards before his demise to Covid?

This Song is from the album Dark Matters. Dave Greenfield played keyboards on it before he died.
