Will Gary Lineker be presenting Motd on Saturday?

Associating refugees de facto with criminal activity; using words like 'menace' and 'invasion' to describe a fairly desperate group of people; stoking up tensions by implying they are a threat to the country i.e. 'billions'; resorting to draconian measures such as deportation and detention; and generally, politicising the mistreatment of a minority group for political gain.

Braverman says it's offensive to compare her words to nazi rhetoric because her husband is Jewish. But he also works for a company that used concentration camp slave labour so maybe being sad about the holocaust isn't a big priority for him.

Is this a thing? Should Jews not work for Mercedes?

just clicked onto my local rag's live page to read some of the some comments about the Lineker story. gammon central.

Every comment on local paper sites is about people in boats getting put in five star hotels. Doesn't matter if the story is seagull terrorises golf course or local pothole swallows pensioner or whatever. These people are utterly obsessed.

erm, the problem here is the many arseholes who have been lining up to claim that they're offended on behalf of a jew, that they're related to or once met or whatever. Whoever married her must have bigger issues though.

totally agree. it's an odd echo chamber isn't it.

The Jews that were trying to enter Germany in small boats controlled by criminal enterprises?

Let’s put this simply. The reason why people are using small boats backed by criminal enterprises is because the UK has at this point cut off any other method of getting here and claiming asylum.

The Home Office screeches about legal routes but there are no legal routes

I’d have thought the conservatives especially would have been happy with the free market stepping in

Yeh just look at the Afghans who interpreted and so on, you'd have thought the government might make some small effort for them. But they've been left in the shit

Yeah, I have no real interest in the Premiership (well, not now Reading aren't in it 🤣 ) , and don't watch it, though mates do, religiously. ( there was a night club in Reading, before the internet, that had a telly with MotD on that we all had to go to, for that sole reason).

It will be interesting to see what the viewing figures are - will they be down a lot of people boycott it or will apolical/right wing football fans make a point of tuning in?
Have to ask which nightclub  , sounds like a Utopia thing tbh

I’m also not sure at what point in the 1930’s the Jews were trying to enter Germany in small boats.
Lineker didn’t compare the refugees crossing the channel with any situation in 1930s Germany. He compared the language the government used to launch their renewed policy with the language used by the Nazi regime prior to the war. He is correct, there are alarming parallels.

The way that Braverman chose to take faux offence was disingenuous.

Report of an interview Greg Dyke gave to Radio 4's Today programme earlier

BBC mistaken in Lineker decision, says former director-general

he suggests, among other things, that Lineker's time as MOTD presenter may be over
If that is how this plays out, being a sacrificial lamb to the death rattles of an overbearing government, for refusing to back down or apologise for pointing out that government's dehumanisation of vulnerable humans...

There's worse ways to leave a job :D

And highly unlikely he'd struggle to find work elsewhere, if he wanted it.

The BBC are acting like 5-year-olds. Next, the Beeb will be calling the PFA big poo-poo heads
Tbf, assuming they won't reinstate Lineker today, it's probably the best of a bad bunch of options for them. Would almost certainly be worse if they did try and do the interviews.
