Why do the French protest/riot better than we do

Twice as many police per population ...
Spain has more even than Russia !
Surprised the USA has so few ...

Does the apparent impact of the French Revolution on the sub consciousness of the French also explain why they didn't elect a socialist govt post war till the 1980s and gave Europe the largest vote for a far right candidate in the post war period ?

A lot of British people like to know their place too much. When the first MPs expenses scandal broke (with the sheer scale of taking the piss) I thought that might be a tipping point but nothing. I think the fact that Blair ignored the Iraq protests and went to war also knocked the stuffing out of protesting for a lot of people - some probably thought if something so massive can be ignored what's the point?

When it comes to population control, we're like China.

Let that sink in for a while, people.
When it comes to population control we are far better at counting private CCTV cameras.

'Britain has riots where other countries have revolutions' (Although we have had loads of revolutions thank you very much, It's just like why 'Treason never prospers') .

We have always kicked off, the myth of the UK being a country of peaceful dignified protests that convince the ruling class to give us concessions out of decency and admiration is just that, a myth.

In modern times: It's a lot more formalised in France, both the CRS and Gendarme Mobile use far more stand off tactics (CS as fog, water cannon, and AEP/Baton Rounds by the hundred) in a way we don't here - except in Northern Ireland for the last two Obvs (and no one cares much about that...). that isn't to say le flics don't get stuck in and give people a kicking but it's not the basic tactic, They also don't tend to use the main GB public order tactic of making everyone stand around in the drizzle talking to dull PLOs until everyone gets bored and fucks off home or down the pub*.

The French also are better at the tactic of violence as theatre, When I paid more attention to such things it was not uncommon for the organisers of protests to make formal complaints if the CRS or GM weren't deployed to their event ...

disclaimer - I really dont know the answer, but ive got some impressions which are just impressions, might be bullshit

but maybe its
-france has yet to experience the legal crushing of its trade unions a la thatcher, so trade unions more effective, and virtuous circle so have more support
-a stronger organised left. theres a communist party festival that attracts nearly a million people in france Fête de l'Humanité - Wikipedia
-a less subservient relationship to the state. vive la republique attitude must be some kind of factor, cementing the role of people power in peoples minds
-these things have momentum and france hasnt lost it.

UK politics feels in a kind of limbo for a range of reasons right now, but it won't stay that way forever, and its easy to start thinking 'this younger generation are too self-interested' or 'the working class has been co-opted by the right' or whatever other negative biases its possible to project, but it just takes one big gut punch crisis and it'll all kick off again.

great though it is to see so much street action as in France right now, its importance can be overstated. look at how much street action took place in greece for months on end a decade ago....not really anything much to show for all of that in terms of real political gain.

blacklisting trade unionists with the collusion of OB, infiltrating everything from the Socialist Baking Circle to the local road protest. Oh and lets not forget infiltrating the solidarity and justice campaigns for the victims of every police murder ever. Retroactively enacting laws to cover the shit that was done so you can do it again. No it isn't china, its Pitt's britain.

We’ve been taught to look down on the french for like centuries. That narrative might be a contributing factor in why we don’t kick off. We ain’t like them frenchies, we are made of sterner stuff etc.

We're brainwashed into respecting the ruling classes and thinking that the monarchy is a benign, kindly old parent type of thing. The French much more sensibly guillotined theirs.

i really hate the complaint "its identity politics fault" ..blaming minorities defending their basic human rights for the wider failure of the left makes no sense to me. As if only people stopped doing that it would all be fine
I don’t think he means that. But it’s the focus on identity politics to the exclusion of class politics rather than being a part of wider class struggle is the mistake.
