Why are lots of people annoyed at Nick Clegg today?

scifisam

feck! arse! girls! drink!
I mean people that weren't annoyed with him before. I see lots of people saying that they're disgusted with Nick Clegg, won't get fooled again, etc. etc., and I get the impression that he's said or done something specific that's getting everyone riled up.

Has he kicked a puppy or something?

He publically stated that a Cameron government would be, to put it mildly, a bit of a bad idea. And yet, here he is, a few days, later seriously discussing whether to join said bad idea.... His drivel about new politics and change seem even more vacuous than when he spouted it before the elections.

Is that all people are annoyed about - that he's considering a coalition with the biggest party? What else is he supposed to do? Let the Tories have complete power? How would that be better?

Are u trolling or being serious?

The tories can't have complete power (or any power) without him. That's the point.

I was annoyed with him before. His praise of Thatcher and comparison of striking miners with bankers, things like that.

he is standing by his promise to offer to deal with the party with the biggest number of seats first.

Did he say seats or majority of votes? Because if he said seats, that's a bit in conflict with their stance on PR. And if he said majority of votes, then he's reneged already.

But they can. :hmm: It'd just be a minority government.

@Blagsta: oh yeah, I know some people on here hated him before - what's surprised me is the number of people who seem to have changed their minds. He always said he'd side with the biggest party, so that hasn't changed. I thought he must have made some sort of statement saying how wonderful Cameron is or something.

He said both, and refused to be pushed by Paxo into saying whether seats trumped votes or vice versa.

The fiend.

I was a bit puzzled about this too, sam, and was looking at the news wondering what it might be.

Why would I be trolling?

I don't understand why people would prefer the Tories to have all the power. I really, really don't get that at all.

Well im assuming that a cursory glance at any news site might answer your question.

He's a lying tory prick. We're getting 'Change' alright. It's just that its not quite the 'Change' he was advertising.

He is supposed to offer Labour first dibs on a coalition. He's not. He's offering it to Dave. Altho Labour will challenge the legality of this. Hence the fuckedoffness of a lotta people.

A minority govt doesn't have complete power, it's got a tiny room for manouvere and very little power - that's why they die pretty quickly. To prop up a tory govt would be to hand them real power that they wouldn't have otherwise.

 What did you expect? Before the election: those other two are shit, vote for me. After the election: what deal can I do?

And have a taste of real power themselves - with PR being the sacrifical lamb.

If the Liberals prop up a Tory govt, I wonder what the response of the Liberal cheerleaders in the media will be? Will Guardian and Indie eat humble pie? Or will they try and justify themselves? Will they attack what Labour has become as justification?
