Why are lots of people annoyed at Nick Clegg today?

I think the 'politic' thing for the Lib Dems to do is go into agreement/coalition with the Tories. The Tories clearly have the advantage. The Lib Dems might be seen as 'responsible' and 'acting in the national interest' if they support the Tories on some economic based platform.

butchersapron, I'll leave the twisting to you, my anti-libdem propaganda expert.

Just saying no one should be surprised, the Tories ending up as the biggest party was always likely, and he made it clear he'd be willing to talk to such a 'largest party'.

Whether he should have made that pledge in the 1st place is another matter.

I am a bit doubtful as to whether lib dems and tories will go into formal coalition but some sort of tacit agreement between the two parties to tackle the economic situation and the security situation (afghanistan) seems likely. Can't see a ramshackle 'progressive' coalition between lib dem, labour and other parties happening (don't really see labour as 'progressive').

I don't really like the Tories and I don't agree with cuts but I think a Lib Dem Tory coalition would somehow be a good thing, don't know why I think that.

Do you expect to be taken seriously here?

I think a possible Lib Dem Tory coalition would give power within the Lib Dem party to the orange book brigade of which Clegg is a bit of one.

right wing flavour of lib-dem ideology (as opposed to still right wing but more social-democratic ideas - think Simon Hughes)

And you think this is a good thing?

No I didn't mean it was a good thing (will edit my comment). I think that the advantage is with Cameron and Clegg at the moment.

I don't agree with Lib Dem policy but looking at it from a Lib Dem point of view (and the view of the right wing press) they might be perceived to be putting the national interest first if they come to some sort of agreement with the Tories on tackling the economic situation and security.

I think there will be a Tory minority gov with the Lib Dems supporting them on Queen's speech and budget and issues like a so called fairer tax system.

Sorry wasn't saying I agree with it, just tactically if I was a Lib Dem I think the momentum is behind some kind of agreement (maybe not coalition) with the Tories.

Whatever they do they are gonna piss of swathes of the electorate.

[just listening to 5 live and pissed off with John Redwood banging on about the markets all the time. I know our democracy is largely a charade but why bother with it at all if you are gonna hand over all decision making to financial speculators?]

If that discussion between Deadwood and Lembit was anything to go on, I'll be amazed frankly that any beneficial deal for the Lib Dems is possible with the Tories.
