Which colours go together and which ones don't?

I am colour blind.

Never was this so useful as when my first employer, British Home Stores, decreed that stockroom staff would wear shirt and tie, colour unspecified.

I began a career of purchasing shirts, ties, and socks (fortunately, this was 1981 and fluorescent socks were in) with the aim of ensuring that they clashed as badly as possible. A pink shirt with lemon yellow tie was possibly my piece de resistance, until I discovered patterns.

What can be done with a striped shirt and paisley tie cannot be undone. I believe some people's eyes are still bleeding, 35 years later.

Incidentally, they relented, and provided a clothing allowance. White shirts (2), blue tie (1).

Naturally, I continued to embellish this rather mundane wardrobe. I really can't understand why they were so pleased to see me go...

as a redhead, you suit blues and greens best - but i love a redhead in purple.

reds and pinks are hard but not impossible. browns and teracotta-oranges are safe but a bit "blendy".

absolutely never never never wear orange and purple.

one place i worked many years ago, it was tradition to wear clothes you got for xmas on the first day back.

i got an orange shirt from one set of relatives, and a jumper that was purple / white / black splodges (there was a bit of a trend for colourful jumpers in the late 80s) from another

Not really. I have the odd black t-shirt and I have black cords for work. But not all over. Ugh.
Before Mrs E Mk II, there was a period where I didn't own anything except black. Black hats, shirts, coat, shoes, socks, shreds, the lot. I had a grey suit and some white shirts, but I mostly wore a black T-shirt with the suit unless I absolutely couldn't - my "Albanian arms dealer" look.

I like black. It makes getting dressed in the morning so much easier.

Your choice. I need colour though.
Being colour blind, I've tended not to trust my judgement too much - colour is stressful!

And I have a similar colouring to you (though mine is now a bit more aged), so I have to be a little careful anyway - anything red makes me look more flushed than a Glastonbury khazi.
