I'm consciously roatating at the moment.
A few months back I took a liking to Tesco's "Promenade" (Des Papes) as a nice balance of fruit, acidity and tannins (was £5, back to over £10), then for a bit I decided I preferred "La Chasse" Cotes du Rhône Réserve (was £5, now back to £7.50) as more rounded, but the last time I opened a bottle I was hit by a great dollop of blackcurrant, so I'm back to some Costières de Nîmes which is a much more understated red and more gooseberry than blackcurrant.
How I ever went off French wine I'll never know.
Luckily my palate isn't well developed so I can be happy with a cheap and cheerful Chenet Merlot (£4) when the sun's shining.
only I could count on finding even that when I'm out for a pub lunch.
