What's for tea tonight? (pt7)

why don't you test out her "reduced sense of smell/taste" by adding 10 times the amount of chillies and gaaahhhlic and other shit. should make for an interesting evening at the least :D

Should I also blow a bullhorn in her ear, to test if she's deaf or not?

no, because her sense of hearing is not in question here

Neither is her lack of a sense of smell. There's no question about whether she does/doesn't have a sense of smell. Why would it be funny to test that? Is it funny to test sensory disabilities?

why did you even bring up her disabilites in the first place? there was no point in it.

Because I'm cooking for her tonight. And this is a chatty thread about what's for tea tonight. Should we not mention disabilities here?

Are you going to answer my question? Why would it be funny to test her sensory disability?

Ach, spare a thought for my mother. After mouth and throat cancer, the radiotherapy not only burnt away any taste glands, but also the ability to generate saliva. Which means a lot of things are near impossible to swallow, with the slightest hint of chilli near unbearable.

Fair play to her - she's still a phenomenal cook, even if she hardly eats any of the (shitloads) of food she still cooks.

Nightmare. Fair play to her for still being a great cook.

That's amazing. Incredibly selfless.

I'll be having this again:

Pepper Chicken with pasta in a roasted garlic and tomato sauce

as the sauce packet's open and wants eating up. Might try and beef the sauce up a bit with some chilli, more onions and stuff.

And it could do with a salad, too.

His girlfriend has no sense of smell, which means she has a very reduced ability to taste/enjoy food. That would depress the shit out of me.

My dad's like that. It really sucks. He gets virtually no enjoyment from food, although the still manages to eat fucking tons of it :D. Upshot is that he wolfs all his meals as there is nothing to savour for him.

He always talks about texture in his food as that's what he can detect most, along with sweet and sour which are tasted on the tongue. He hates tinned tuna for instance because it's "dry" but loves roast potatoes cos of the crunchy outside and soft inside. Chilli is an absolute no no - even tiny amounts - in fact even red peppers are enough to irritate him. All he gets is the burn without any flavour whatsoever. Unctuous puddings are always a winner!

Given that two people have now said no sense of smell is allied with inability to tolerate chilli, I might have to rethink the chilli con carne idea...

Shiiiirl! It's gonna be just like the old times again! Oh God, don't get me started on the time with the balalaika!

Guess who I am BTW.

Oh no, not another one. I'm rubbish and finding out who's who  As you can see from my question to LTC even when it was in his tag line
Give me a great big clue but even then I'll probably have to ask someone :D

Ignore her Shirl, she's always been Enid...she has a mischievous sense of humour...she gets it from Blind Lemon, her massive brain, of course she gets from me.....

My son has returned two days early from his holiday, because he was poorly :( and homesick :p so it's his choice tonight (he hasn't eaten much for a couple of days) and he's gone for salmon. :)

So salmon, with some broccoli and new potatoes for him...all unbuttered :p ...and I've got loads of salsa and COLD rice left so I'll have some of that with my salmon...and seeing as how she STILL flatly refuses to even taste a plain boiled potato :hmm: the small girl will have a combination of the two.

He's a little, soft shite!  :D

(Although he is actually genuinely a teeny, tiny bit ill too, tbf! He said that on the 2nd night, whenever he closed his eyes, it felt like he was falling and he was never going to stop..... :( </violins> LOL! :D )

It's up in the kitchen :D ....

Josh hit me in the night and hurt my feelings.
Fred.
P.S. So I had to sleep on the side all cold.

..left in a strategic place on my friend's landing, for the next passing adult to find... :D ...he was not quite 7 when he wrote that, so clearly at 9, he's already very well practiced in the fine art of self-pity. :D :( :D

Oh your poor mum :(:( That's so shit. But to carry on making lovely food...well...it's still the enjoyment she can get out of making others happy with it eh?

I'm on more chicken and chorizo stew tonight, with rice cos I've run out of pasta

Don't worry, she still loves food. Put it this way, she's still got 2 chest freezers and 3 fridge freezers in her house, all full and ready to feed a passing army. That's for a household of two, one tube fed and the other unable to eat much.

Any excuse and she'll cook for you in a second mind, particularly now she's in the house acting as carer for Dad most of the time. Mentioned I was having a BBQ last w/e and before I knew it a tray of ribs the size of the Titanic and a ginormous pyramid of profiteroles were being delivered. She's ace.

Durian crumble?

No idea really. Not heard that chilli sensivity thing if I'm honest either. Mrs Miggins' idea about textures seems bang on the money to me - perhaps some kind of melting stew with a crispy pie-style topping?

 does she errr fancy any more kids, like? Hungry kids, aged 40 and well mannered? :D

She's got about 50 adopted ligger children already. The friends/relatives popping in suspiciously around dinner time and endding up with a plate of food was a feature of my childhood. W/e's were spent cooking for carnival, social clubs and cake stalls.

Get in line.

:p

Hmm. I do have some braising steak defrosting. I could do a nice beef pie. Mashed potatoes etc.
