Marks and Spencer's Two Dine in for £10:
Honey and soy glazed salmon
Ceasar style warm veg
lemon cheesecake
and a bottle of red
:)

*sigh*

You always eat so fucking well - it's great, but it depresses me that I appear to have sunk into a mojo-less culinary existence

My partner chose me for my culinary skills, (not that I'm a complete dolt at other pursuits) so I've set some not unreasonable standards-- and I truly do love to cook. From now until late August I'm cooking for four every day instead of just the two of us, and I'm on a mission to cultivate the palates of two nephews raised on the same ten dishes in rotation, year in and year out (if you don't count the take-out slop I'm sure they prefer to my sister's cooking).

Regaining your stovetop mojo, I'm confident, is probably just a matter of getting inspired and making the time. Or no?

good luck with that - perseverance and giving them some of what they really want helps

Lack of time at weekends now I have a pesky gf (who doesn't even have a proper cooker) ;). I'm also constantly trying not to spend too much, and am getting old therefore tired - too tired and hungry when I get in from work to spend delicious hours cooking up something good

True enough. They'd eat pizza for breakfast if I prepared it. As it is, they get it every Saturday night, with their choice of toppings-- no chevre, artichoke hearts or anchovies-- yet. :) And they'll demolish mountains of pasta with whatever is put on it, so they're not completely fussy. I don't "make" them eat anything, but I insist they at least try some of everything. They know where the bread and cold meats are kept if they're really repulsed. So far, so good-- the only thing they've both turned their noses up at is rabbit, oddly enough.

Well, I have an unfair advantage in that making meals is part of my job description (and I certainly understand the "getting old" thing), but what if you were to force yourself into it? Say you sent out a dinner invitation to folks you know will be expecting a grand nosh...

mountains of pasta go down very well with most kids/teenagers I find - you can sneak in some freshly made sauce and as long as its tossed well they'll scoff it :)

oh well yeh, there are a few mates i could invite around for that...last time, me and one of me bessie mates cooked up a roast goose with every trimming you can imagine. it was sooo lush, and i still have goose fat int freezer for roasties  I would do it for that. I cook for Annierak when she comes round, and even though she's not a foody in the slightest, it's always heart-warming to see her polish off a plate of my cooking :)

That sound nummy. I love a roast goose. And you can't beat goosefat for browning onions for goulash.

My old German granny used to save goosefat for water-proofing my grand-dad's garden shoes. And if you took ill with cold, she'd smear the stuff on your chest mixed with eucalyptus oil and you'd have to lie there in one of your dad's flannel shirts smelling like a sticky, rancid Australian goose. The hot rum and lemon made it a little more tolerable though. :)

deep fried spare ribs with chilli and chips. It's Friday, I'm too shattered to cook but that's not a problem as there's nothing in. So I'm treating my arteries until I can get my hands on some fruit and veg in the morning.

My mum's coming down for the today, so the small boy is going to make the sandwich he designed at school as part of their healthy eating project.....an SLE  ....sausage, lettuce and egg.

I've bought some posh sausages and some nice bread and there's lettuce from the allotment...and I've suggested he do egg mayonnaise rather than plain old egg for fear of it being a bit dry otherwise..... ;) :D

My mum's bringing some cake - or possibly making a trifle.

Dunno yet...waiting for my lass to get up, and then we'll either go and get a load of goodies, or do nowt all day and get a chinese takeaway later

The man on our favourite stall at the market gave us two free fillet steaks as a wedding present  You wouldn't get that at Tescos.

Grilled chicken stew (you marinate the chicken, fish it out and grill it, while boiling the marinade) with friend plantain. I might use up the last of my bloody asparagus too, or I might go and buy some corn on the cob after reading what moomoo's having.

Didn't really have time for the full shebang so just had a margarita each. Salad and garlic bread can keep for monday because we're having lasagne.

you're having lasagne as well? now?

want!!!

fucksake - gotta wait for the daughter to finish changing her room around before we can even order pizza!
