Tonight I iz going to try and cook chili for the first time evar. Any top tips gratefully received.

I am also wondering whether to have it with rice, jacket spuds or home made potato wedges...

Got to be potato wedges. I always use fresh sliced chillis in mine with Tabasco and a lot of onions.

God knows.

It's one of those nights where everyone is in and out at different times with no time to eat a meal together in between.

Get some nice bread and make a big pot of soup moomoo...easy to feed lots of people at different times that way and lovely on a chilly day.

Kids are having fish and chips tonight and we've got various leftovers to eat....so a salad with some chicken livers for sure and maybe some other strange concoction to use up the rest...or we might have that for lunch in which case it'll be a wrap filled with houmous, griddled halloumi, black olives and salad, stuck back on the griddle for a couple of minutes to toast the outside a bit (a lush mixture, blatantly copied from our favourite cafe here :p :D ).

Enchiladas tonight with quorn chilli, grated cheese, sour cream and lots of spicy guacamole cos I've got a couple of avocados that need using up

I've got to make Cornish pasties for the TV programme I'm doing tomorrow (ooooh, get me), so Alex B is sorting out tea.

it's got to be rice. Flatbreads as optional sides I reckon.

And it should be good, soupy and flavour filled, preferably with a mixture of pork and beef mince (and even some chipped steak if time allows) Fresh and dried chillies should be used - chipotle (dried smoked jalapenos) are the best if you can be arsed to track them down. Cumin and occasionally oregano are the only herbs I tend to use.

I love chilli, even quickly made stuff, but there's something to be said about cooking a whopping-sized pot of American style chilli and letting it slowlybubble. I've fond memories of steaming bowls of near-perfect chilli in Pike Place market in Seattle - not flash, but it just tasted perfect.

Is that the prog you were on about not long ago fran? Good luck

I'm gonna make a thai red chicken curry with jasmine rice. Burn the fucking cold germs out

I have lots of sweet potatoes so will have them roasted with squash, garlic, beef tomatoes, red onion and cubes of feta.
But i want to try a little meat but dont know what i will like..it might make me sick

The OH is back from his conference so we are going to check out a local Noodle Bar.

Quite fancy a load of seafood in a Thai curry style sauce with some thick juicy noodles. And possiobly some tempura. Yum!

Im making a huge pot of veg chilli though I really fancy a curry but I have to use my veg up before they are no good. So its a bowl of brown rice and super hot veg chilli...

indian takeaway i suspect. i want something hot hot hot but my fella doesn't like hot curries :( so if i make dinner i'll have to make it quite mild.

Leftover chicken casserole made by my father in law.
It looks all grey and "dead beached porbeagle" like!!
I don't fancy it like but MrsPhenol has put her foot down and said we're having it (despite my takeaway diversion tactics!).:(

i dont know what to have for dinner. can anyone suggest something to make from a combination of:
Sausages
Chorizo
Tinned tomatoes
spinach
chick peas
pasta
red pesto
as well as usual cupboard ingredients?

Saussie and chickpea stew of course! Bung all the ingredients apart from the pesto into a pot, add a bit of veg or chicken stock, simmer. Serve with the pasta

Add some thyme if you've got it, and fry some onions beforehand to put in.

tonite it will be some combo of the following
  • one leftover chicken soft taco from 4 days ago
  • half a burger king whopper from 2 days ago
  • a bit of leftover thai green curry with chicken, peas, bamboo shoots, carrots from 3days ago
  • leftover sirlion, mash, corn, mac 'n cheese from last night

sojourner - that sounds good, just hope it tastes nice - i've had a sucession of disappointing home cooked dinners :(

It's lush. If you have any garlic or paprika, bung that in too.

it will taste fab, so long as you cook it long enough to reduce down

many home made meals are stuffed cos it's not cooked properly (spah bol and chilli for instance :))

will do - cheers!

think i'll have loads of this left over as my foodie housemate doesnt like beans and pulses so it will be mine, ALL MINE!!! :D

if I were you, I'd gently fry the onion and garlic, till its lush and clear and just turning golden, then add the chorizo till it releases its oil, then add the meat and brown (and onions slightly sticky), then add your herbs and the smoked paprika etc then the veg then the liquid

it'll make it richer in taste
