What's for tea tonight? (#8)

I have gone this way...

Two heads of cauliflower broken into pieces. Half boiled.

Peas and green beens boiled for 10 minutes and set aside.

Garlic, leeks and red peppers softened in about 150 Grammes of butter. Added ground pepper, salt, oregano and fennel. Once softened stir in a generous spoon of cornflour. Add a Litre of milk little by little until simmering at a good consistency. Add half of the cheese.

The cheese. Personally, if I am prepared to spend a Tenner on meat for a dish - I am prepared to spend a Tenner on cheese for a dish. Half a Kilo of mountain cured sheep cheese. Half chopped for the sauce. Half sliced for topping.

---------- Do your chips now.

Put the peas and beens back on a simmer.

Pour the sauce mixture over drained cauliflower into a baking dish. Top with thick slices of cheese and very ripe tomatoes. Sprinkle with oregano and pepper. Bake at a high heat for 10 minutes, then turn to low for a further 20 minutes.

Serve with bread.

Stanley, that sounds amazing. I'm going to copy that recipe. Is it something you invented or is it a Spanish recipe?

Last nights plan for curry when out the window cos Mrs r went out on the lash so I had a fish finger sandwich & beer.

Got two 14oz rib eye steaks for tonight. Beer on the go but it's just the little bottles of lager so they don't count :)

Fry up of Kearns sausages (small with NO GRIZZLE and a beautiful, sticky kind of sweetness), eggs, rashers (honey and whiskey chip smoked Irish, by Tesco), white pudding, and homemade potato salad (with light mayo and mixed herbs).

We dusted off the BBQ for the first time this year so I rustled up some kebabs on my fire wires: red onion, red and orange peppers and chicken marinated in yoghurt and Harissa. Served it with cous cous and piccolino tomatoes.
Vanilla ice cream and toffee pop corn for pudding.

Just my son this weekend, so made the most of my daughter's absence and did a fish pie yesterday...smoked haddock/cod/salmon/king prawns/peas in a slightly cheesy/winey/fish stocky white sauce with a white/sweet potato topping and sugar snaps on the side.

Today we went to Cafe Rouge for a late lunch/early dinner (had £20 Tesco vouchers that needed using soonish)....I had a chicken caesar salad and my son had what he has every single time :D steak, frites and garlic butter....back home now and we've just had our pudding....1.5 scones each, with rasberry conserve and clotted cream (and a cup of tea for me, obv) *slurp*

70's salad today of iceberg lettuce, cucumber, beetroot, avocado, boiled eggs, ham, coleslaw, potato salad, tinned pink salmon, tomato, smoked salmon, olives and Irish brown bread with salted butter.

Meat overload. Bacon Saturday & Sunday morning, pub burger & fries Saturday lunchtime, 14oz ribeye steak Saturday night, caff chicken burger & fries Sunday lunchtime, King Prawn curry delivery Sunday night, half of Mrs R's ribeye steak with my salad nicoise just now.

Fat bastid, just spaghetti with olive oil, chilli flakes, garlic and black pepper tonight.

Can't get enough of the Jersey Royal new potatoes while they're in season. Really nice taste, I get the Sainsburys Taste the Difference ones which are £1 for 500g atm. Will boil some in their skins, cut into cubes and make a potato salad with finely sliced red onion and Hellman's Mayonnaise. With a slice of Gala Pie, English Mustard, coleslaw, and wholemeal bread.

Small jacket potatoes with a little cheese on. Salad with chicken tikka pieces and a chilli oil dressing. Some coleslaw on the side.

Meringues with raspberry ripple ice cream for dessert.

Mackerel (caught yesterday in the Irish sea and left in a bucket of water overnight), deboned by my Dad and rolled in flour and fried by me. It was out of this world!!! Served with a side salad of tomato, lettuce, cucumber, celery, pine nuts and avocado, with beetroot. Humus and brown bread on the side. Dessert was pears, peaches and blueberries with Valencia orange yoghurt.
