What's for tea tonight? (#8)

I have just cooked a selection of Chinese, tandoori and souther fried chicken thighs / drumsticks.

Not sure what we'll have with it yet.

God, Addy. I'd go to your house for tea any time!

Asda are doing rice cookers for a tenner atm.

I should really invest in something like this, I eat a lot of curries and always rely on the pre-cooked microwave in a bag rice or the part cooked stuff in tubs. They're not cheap, £2+ per person where as you can get a stone of rice for about a fiver from the local deli and Asian shops.

It all depends on whether the bacon is off. I bought it last week from the butchers and it has been in the coldest part of the fridge. Just took it out and it doesn't smell but it is really sticky. I have no idea whether to throw it out or not.

Fillet of beef stroganoff but with chips because I can't cook rice to save my life

I'm so glad it's not just me.
I'm a pretty good cook (of I do say so myself) but no matter how many different ways I try and do white rice, it's shit.
I'm ok with risotto and brown rice though.

Bacon lasts for ages in my experience.

MrsDarlingsKiss gave me some tops on cooking rice and I've since used her method and had far better results but it's still... well, it looks like school rice pudding :/
This always works for basmati, for me:

2 parts water to one part rice (volume)
little oil/butter in a pan
fry rice for about 20-30 secs
add boiling water
lid on
heat down to lowest
12mins
nice fluffy rice
:)

salmon, rice (probably cooked wrong but I'm used to the bad way i cook it!), lots of veg. And some bad wine :( Now i want something sweet for pudding but have nothing. Wondering whether to go to shops. But I could really do without tbh. I had 'pudding' for breakfast, and lunch...

re rice: wash three times in cold water, add rice to pot, add cold water to pot. Rest your fore finger on the top of the rice, the water should reach the first line of your finger. Then add a bit of salt. Boil the shit out of your rice until you see the little holes, and the water is pretty much gone. Then turn it right down and put the lid on for about ten mins.... perfect rice every time.

please note this works best for rice for up to about six

Thank you. :)

Roast chicken and salad with a badgers special dressing was lush!

ETA: That sounds like I meant he came on the salad. To clarify it was a maple syrup dressing :D

my rice works fine ta :D

Rice cooking is a very subjective thing.
I never wash it and follow the same method as Biddlybee except I do the same volume of water as rice and cook for 10 minutes on the lowest setting and then take it off the heat and leave it sitting with the lid on for 5 minutes or so. Perfect results every time and I like the way you can add extra flavouring (i.e. fennel seeds, nigella seeds etc. when you fry the rice in the butter/oil at the beginning)

turns out i ain't bothering going out tonight anyway. the mate i was planning on hanging out with has spent the afternoon shitfaced and just dropped a pill, and i frankly can't be dealing with that tonight. :D  :(
