What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Even skinter than usual - payday on Thursday, so it's freezer/cupboard foraging time.

So - quorn chicken madras it is then! Got a jar of the paste in the fridge, nom.

a stew with belly pork, chirizo, haricot beans, fennel and savoy.

The bessari recipe said to peal the broad beans. Being lazy I though feck that, it'll add a bit of roughage. It's nice but next time I'll peal them (or buy the bag of big ones that are already pealed)

tonight's tea was somewhat unorthodox in that it consisted of both mash and chips with chicken fillets and some onion to add much needed colour. It was a bit of a challenge getting everything to finish being cooked at the same time, following last night's near miss i took no chances and pan fried the chicken from the start. the mash was finished earlier than the chips and chicken and onion but with some quick thinking on my feet i managed to rescue the situation with the cunning use of the microwave. the meal was garnished with both tomato sauce and salad cream.

overall - 7/10

Oh for godsake binka get a cook book :D

You could have used those ingredients to make a different dish that would have at least looked a lot better :p

DO you not have any herbs or spices in your cupboard? Any tinned tomatoes or chickpeas/beans or anything?

in my cupboard ive got salt, salad cream, tomato sauce and half a tub of quixo

According to google quixo is a board game? :hmm:

Do you have a "efnic" market near you? Can get loads of seasoning for dead cheep. Tins of stuff to add to other stuff when you haven't got much in. They last for ages too.

quixo is aldi's bisto. i get all my ingredients from aldi. i do live right next door to hulme market and there's all sorts of weird stuff being sold in there, im happy with what i have though. if i go off buying stuff i don't understand i could end up ruining a perfectly good tea

Nowt hot, had ryvita and cheese earlier, slimfast for breakfast, just nomming a bag of spinach. Might have cereal or some sort of corn griddle cake later - not really got time to do any serious cooking the next few days.

Sadly I've found that in general cheapo fake instant gravy just doesn't cut it when compared to Bisto.

If you pick stuff you know you like, type the ingredients in to google, hey presto, loads of recipes.

Badgers made a mighty late lunch/early dinner.

Onion and bacon fried, peas added, fresh pesto with fresh mushroom tortellini.
And a salad of tomatoes, cucumber, grated carrot, spring onion with a pomegranate molasses dressing

i do vary things a lot ive just got a freezer full of aldi chicken fillets and aldi chips to get through. probably going to move into pasta dishes tomorrow night and then maybe some sort of casserole next week depending on if i can be bothered fannying around with all that chopping

The sun has gone to my head, so I am treating us to a Thai. Spring rolls to start, pad priew wan (sweet and sour style chicken stir fry) for the wife, pad gra prao (tofu stir fried with holy basil) for me. I'm having mine with noodles, kidda's having hers with sticky rice. All washed down with a nice bottle of beer. Drinking on a work night ftw.
